Amazon Prime Gaming Free Games for December Have Two Clear Targets This Holiday Season

By newsgame

Back in the late 2010s, Twitch would occasionally offer a free game or two in December to those who were signed up to Twitch Prime, which they could keep even after their subscription to Prime had expired. In December 2018, the number of free games rose to four, and by the time Amazon had renamed the service to Prime Gaming in 2020, that number had increased to nine.

Now spread out over the course of the month, Amazon Prime Gaming has kept offering around eight free games every December. That is until December 2024, when a total of 18 free games were dropped during the holiday season, a line-up that included the likes of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Overcooked! 2, Tomb Raider Underworld, Dredge, and Predator: Hunting Grounds. While Amazon Prime Gaming’s December 2025 free games line-up is a tad smaller than last year’s, there are still some great titles on offer, some of which seem to appeal to two very specific audiences.

The first volume of Stranger Things Season 5 is out, but those who have already binged the four episodes now have an excruciating three-week wait ahead of them. Though they’re not quite the same as a new batch of episodes, Amazon Prime Gaming’s free Dungeons and Dragons games could be the perfect way for Stranger Things fans to get their fantasy fix between volumes.

Split into three separate collections, Forgotten Realms: The Archives remasters a total of 13 classic Dungeons and Dragons RPGs that were originally released on PCs back in the late 1980s and 90s. Though their gameplay and graphics might feel dated compared to modern Dungeons and Dragons RPGs like Baldur’s Gate 3, these Forgotten Realms titles are still a great place for Stranger Things fans to expand their knowledge of the tabletop RPG that remains a focal point of the show’s ongoing narrative and character dynamics.

Though creatures and characters like Vecna and the Demogorgon don’t appear in these Dungeons and Dragons games, they’ll still give D&D newcomers an interactive introduction to other key elements of the TTRPG, such as character classes, key locations, and general role-playing mechanics, knowledge that Stranger Things fans can bring with them into the series finale and beyond.

Amazon Prime Gaming’s Free Games for December Drop Just In Time for Fallout Season 2

Fallout 1 and 2 Will Be Available for Free With Amazon Prime Gaming on December 23

  • Fallout (Available December 23)
  • Fallout 2 (Available December 23)

Premiering back in April 2024, Amazon’s Fallout show was a major hit with critics and fans alike, with it not only receiving 65 million views in its first 16 days, but also leading to a massive surge in popularity for the video games that directly inspired it. Though the Fallout show takes a great deal of inspiration from Bethesda’s entries in the post-apocalyptic franchise, Fallout Season 1 also contained plenty of references to the original Interplay Fallout games that started it all. The town of Shady Sands, for instance, made its debut in the very first Fallout all the way back in 1997, with it being the first town most players reach after leaving Vault 13.

On December 23, those subscribed to Amazon Prime Gaming will be able to claim the first two Fallout games for free. These freebies land just a few days after Fallout Season 2 premieres on December 17, giving fans caught up in the hype the perfect opportunity to go back and experience the entire Fallout franchise from the very beginning while they wait for weekly episodes.

Though the isometric RPG gameplay of Fallout and Fallout 2 feel very different from Bethesda’s modern first-person entries, the series’ trademark dark humor and exaggerated characters are still there in full force. And if Fallout Season 2 is anything like the first, fans who play the original Fallout games will likely be rewarded with a few Easter eggs and references by the time the season has reached its conclusion in February.
