The September 2025 Nintendo Direct was an important one for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Not only was the game’s release date finally announced after eight long years, but fans also got a glimpse of Samus riding around on a motorcycle, which was later revealed to be called the Vi-O-La.

Every Metroid Game Ever Made From Worst To Best, Ranked

Unlike Nintendo’s other properties, the Metroid games vary wildly in quality, and we’ve ranked each and every game in the series from worst to best.

Now that the game is finally here, many will likely be keen to find out how to unlock the motorcycle in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and also, how to use it. Those who turned off tutorials may also be eager to learn how to get on and off the Vi-O-La, as it’s not entirely obvious right away.

How to Get the Motorcycle in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Players will find the Vi-O-La shortly after arriving in the Volt Forge area while searching for the second teleporter key. However, before they can actually use it, they’ll first need to restore power to Tower 1 by riding the elevators down to the lowest part of the tower and activating the lightning rod. Once they’ve done so, they can make their way back up to the area with the motorcycle and interact with the Vi-O-La Suit Printer. Doing so will unlock the Vi-O-La Suit, after which, players will be able to activate the motorcycle by pressing the A button.

Controlling Samus’ motorcycle is relatively straightforward. Players can press R or ZR button to accelerate and the L or ZL button to brake. To get off the motorcycle, players should push the + button, which can also be used to summon the Vi-O-La in areas where it can be ridden. A little later on in the game, players will unlock the ability to perform speed boosts and fire projectiles as they ride, which can be done by pressing the B and A buttons, respectively. It’s possible to scan stuff while riding the motorcycle, but only while the Psychic Visor is equipped.
