How to Get Mewtwo and Its Mega Stones in Pokemon Legends ZA

Pokemon Legends: Z-A players can now catch Mewtwo and acquire both of its Mega Evolution Stones: Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y by completing a special Side Mission called Project M.

You’ll need to hop online and connect to Mystery Gift in order to start the side mission that leads to the Mewtwo encounter, but before you can do that, you will need to beat Pokemon Legends: Z-A and roll credits. This guide will cover how to start the side mission and how to get Mewtwo and its Evolution stones. Let’s get into it.

How to Get Mewtwo (and Mewtwonite X/Y) in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Starting Project M

Once you’ve beaten Pokemon Legends: Z-A, go ahead and open the menu with the X button and go down to Link Play. From here, click Mystery Gift, then choose Get Via Internet. Click on Project M, and then the new side mission will be available. You will also immediately get Mewtwo’s Mega Evolution Stones (Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y).

The game won’t really explain to you where you need to go to actually start Project M, but that’s why we’re here. You just need to open the map and fast travel to Lysandre Cafe (just outside Wild Zone 7).

Head inside to enter Lysandre Labs, then step into the red elevator doors in front of you and select B3F. Once you enter the main room on this floor, a cutscene will happen. If you decide to release the locks, Mewtwo will appear and be ready for a battle with you.

Once you defeat it, you can attempt to catch it in your Poke Ball of choice, but just know that if you do miss the catch, the battle will restart, giving you another chance. We managed to catch it with an Ultra Ball after two tries.

What’s the Difference Between Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y?

Mega Mewtwo X (pictured on the left) turns into a dual Psychic/Fighting-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Its attack is exceptionally high and is a powerhouse in competitive play. Mega Mewtwo Y, on the other hand, keeps its Psychic form, but has really high speed and special attack, but also has low defense, so be careful with this glass cannon.
