What to Expect From Elden Ring Nightreign’s DLC Scholar Class
Following in the footsteps of past FromSoftware action-RPGs like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, Elden Ring Nightreign is set to receive a sizable DLC expansion very soon. Titled The Forsaken Hollows, this $15 DLC will add two new Nightlord bosses to the co-op roguelike game, along with a new Shifting Earth event and two new playable Nightfarers.
Ahead of Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows‘ launch on December 4, Bandai Namco and FromSotware have shared a deeper look at the DLC’s new Scholar class. Though there’s still much to be revealed about the new playable Nightfarer, what has been shown is likely to be more than enough to convince most fans that the Scholar deserves a spot on the team.
What’s Coming in Elden Ring Nightreign’s Forsaken Hollows DLC?
- Two new Nightfarers: The Scholar and the Undertaker
- Two new Nightlords (Third Day Bosses)
- A new Shifting Earth event
- New Field Bosses, including returning bosses from Dark Souls like Artorias of the Abyss
Elden Ring Nightreign’s Scholar Class Abilities
While the Scholar’s abilities haven’t been officially detailed by FromSoftware just yet, Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows‘ latest character trailer does show the new Nightfarer in action, giving us plenty of room to speculate:
- Possible Weapon Proficiency: Thrusting (Cane Sword)
- Possible Passive Ability: Throwable effects may trigger twice
- Possible Active Ability: Debuff that slows enemies
- Possible Ultimate Ability: Enemy link
Elden Ring Nightreign‘s Scholar character trailer opens with the Nightfarer wielding a cane sword against a Soldier of Godrick. This cane sword looks slightly different from the one found in Elden Ring‘s base game, however, as it has a silver grip and seems to use a thrusting set of attacks rather than the straight sword-based moveset the cane sword usually has. It also seems this cane sword could have a built-in dodge mechanic, with the Scholar avoiding two of the soldier’s swings by back-stepping.
After a few shots of the Scholar enjoying some well-earned rest at the Roundtable Hold, the trailer gives fans a glimpse of what seems to be the Scholar’s active ability. A white circle appears in front of the Scholar’s field-of-view, and the four enemies visible inside the circle are tagged with a dark cloud of smoke emanating from their bodies. This seems to be a kind of debuff that potentially slows enemies.
To eliminate the group of enemies, the Scholar lobs what appears to be a Lightning Pot throwable, which explodes twice, perhaps hinting at the new Nightfarer’s passive ability. The final shots of the trailer show the Scholar engaged in a fierce battle with the Nightlord Libra and his small army of summoned clones. Here, the Scholar uses their ultimate ability, which seemingly links enemies together so that any damage taken by one is shared between all. It also looks like the Scholar’s allies are linked during this ultimate window, though it’s unclear how that affects the team.
How Elden Ring Nightreign’s Scholar Class Could Shake Up Team Dynamics
Of all of Elden Ring Nightreign‘s eight Nightfarer classes, none could be considered a true ‘support’ class. The Recluse may use magic and the Revenant might rely on summons, but both put damaging enemies at the forefront of their playstyles, just like any other Nightfarer. The Forsaken Hollows’ Scholar, on the other hand, appears to have an ability set built around assisting their teammates, whether it’s slowing down enemies in front of an ally or linking enemies so that the squad can take them down faster.
Best Elden Ring Nightreign Scholar Team-Ups
Of course, we won’t really know who works well with the Scholar until Elden Ring Nightreign‘s DLC launches next week, but there are some Nightfarer combinations that already feel like a match made in heaven. Nightreign‘s Ironeye is always a must-have member of the team, and their ranged attacks will undoubtedly work well with Scholar’s enemy-linking ultimate, as would Wylder’s ability to zip toward an enemy and quickly wipe them out.
