Wake Up ARC Raiders Fans, New Scrappy Lore Just Dropped

By newsgame

I imagine if you asked the entire ARC Raiders community whether or not they’d take an in-game bullet for Scrappy the rooster, many of them would say yes, without hesitation. Scrappy has become a pivotal part of the ARC Raiders gameplay loop, collecting materials for players while they head topside to take the battle directly to ARC. But, up until now, very little has been known of Scrappy. Who is he? Why does he give us free materials? Where does he get them from? Some of these answers still remain a mystery, but Embark has given fans some important backstory (lore, if you will) on Scrappy, explaining how he ended up in one of the most popular multiplayer games of the year.

For those who haven’t had the chance to head into Speranza yet and experience ARC Raiders, you might not be aware of the cultural icon that is Scrappy. While he may appear to be just an ordinary rooster, he has a fantastic purpose. When a player heads topside to loot, battle against other players, and fend off ARC, Scrappy gathers some basic materials that can be used to craft important pieces of gear and items. Whether a player completes a successful raid or not, Scrappy will still supply them with metal parts, fabric, chemicals, plastic parts, and more. However, the number of parts Scrappy can gather depends on the raid’s outcome. Players will receive more from this friendly rooster if they make it back to Speranza in one piece.

ARC Raiders Players Are Calling for Embark to Patch This Game-Breaking Exploit

The ARC Raiders community calls for developer Embark Studios to address one of the game’s most prevalent exploits, as it grows tired of the issue.

Scrappy Was Nearly a Robot Cat

Admittedly, the addition of Scrappy to a game like ARC Raiders raised a few eyebrows at first. Many fans have long questioned why Embark opted to make this resource-giving figure a rooster, and now we know. In a new post on its website, Johan, a 3D artist at Embark, explained that the addition of Scrappy stems back to a Zoom meeting being crashed by a flock of chickens. “Mid-zoom meeting, the birds somehow snuck into the house and strutted around behind me, instantly stealing the show and derailing the meeting entirely,” Johan explained. The developer then says that among these chickens was Hȧkan, a friendly rooster that we now know as Scrappy.

Unlike the other roosters, Johan says Hȧkan was friendly, cuddly, and blind in one eye. One day, the dev opted to photoscan the beloved rooster and “sneak him into the game as a silly little easter egg.” Originally, Hȧkan could be seen running around the cantina, until he “got his chance to shine.” Embark needed an asset to use as a resource producer for ARC Raiders, and after cycling through many different ideas, such as cats, robots, and even robot-cats, a fellow developer pointed out that a rooster had already been scanned into the game. “That spark of inspiration turned into a phenomenon,” Johan said. What began as an easter egg became one of the most beloved characters in the ARC Raiders universe.

Those who have been endlessly grinding ARC Raiders for the last few weeks probably don’t have much of a purpose for Scrappy anymore, but he’s an excellent feature for those still in the early to mid-game. Metal parts, chemicals, plastic parts, and many other basic materials he can gather are used to craft some of the most vital gear and items in the game. Metal parts, for example, can be turned into mechanical components, which are then used to repair or craft numerous different weapons, while fabric is essential for healing items such as bandages. So, when heading topside for the first few times, it’s important to check in with Scrappy and claim the resources he offers.

Another important part of Scrappy is upgrading him, which actually requires players to get their hands on ARC Raiders‘ most elusive Lemons and Apricots. At first, players will need one Dog Collar to upgrade Scrappy, followed by the aforementioned Lemons and Apricots to upgrade him again, then Prickly Pears, Olives, and a Cat Bed for the next level. Followed by Mushrooms, Apricots, and Very Comfortable Pillows for the last upgrade. Each upgrade allows Scrappy to provide players with more resources, so it’s essential that players train him as quickly as possible.
