Should You Accept or Refuse the Covenant in Solasta 2?
In Solasta 2, after Maraike stops time and asks if you would take up Ma Hin’s job and accept the Covenant in her stead, the only real choice players have is to say “Yes,” since this is the only way to progress past this section of the game.
Choosing “No” results in a game over state that forcibly reverts the game to a previous point in the story, giving players no way to effectively refuse the deity what it is asking for. Here are the details.
Great Games Where Your Decisions Truly Matter
The following games stand out for forcing players to make tough decisions that can drastically change the story.
Should You Honor Maraike’s Covenant in Solasta 2?
After Maraike asks if you would take on Ma Hin’s burden to save her son, Rickard, at the start of Solasta 2, you’ll be offered three choices:
- Yes.
- No.
- What is the Covenant?
The correct option here is “Yes,” as refusing the Covenant is not a possibility at all. Here is how it will play out with each of these options.
What Happens If You Say “Yes” to the Covenant?
If you say Yes, Maraike will acquiesce to your request to take on Ma Hin’s burden and honor the covenant, saying “So be it.” A bright white flash of light will appear on the screen, and you will be transported to Caer Mar, a new map where you can progress through the next part of the campaign. This will mark the end of the tutorial section.
Rickard will remain alive, Deorcas will be transported alongside you, but Landry’s fate will remain unknown.
What Happens If You Say “No” to the Covenant?
If you say No, Maraike will say “The cycle of life and death goes on,” and will immediately disappear from the world, which will cause the time stop effect that was keeping the falling pillars in place to cease to function, burying you, your party, Rickard, Landry, and Deorcas under the rubble and ending the run.
Then, you’ll see a screen saying “You chose death. Denying a request from the gods is a dangerous path.” The only option here is to click on “Understood,” which will take you back to the decision screen in front of Maraika. This time, there will be no option to pick “No,” you’ll only be able to pick “Yes” or “What is the Covenant?”
What Happens If You Ask, “What is the Covenant”?
If you ask Maraike, “What is the Covenant?” she’ll answer, “Your Sacred Heritage, a blessed journey to undertake, a flame to keep alive.” Nothing else will happen and you will be taken back to the decision between choosing Yes or No. If you picked Yes before picking this option, Maraike will not explain what the Covenant is to you before teleporting you to the next map.
