Search the Area Around the Body
Locate the dead man’s body in a clearing in the northern part of the Autumn Forest, northeast of Vigeshvar, the starting village. Examine the body, and your companions will discuss his fate.
If you pass a passive survival check, you’ll also discover that he seems to have been eaten by Lewolans. The party will also discover a mysterious statuette on his body, an Ancient Idol whose purpose is shrouded in mystery.
Find Out About the Statuette
Activate tracking mode and look for a dig spot near where you found the dead body, next to the bedroll. Use a Shovel to dig up the dirt mound, and pick up the “Journal Covered in Earth.”
The Journal will tell the party that the dead man was looking into the tomb of a man named Matheus, and the Mysterious Statuette is likely a discovery related to him.
A Shovel can be found near Minan’s house in Vigeshvar
Learn More About the Dead Man’s Diary
There are two people who know a little about who Matheus was and what the Mysterious Statuette represents: Mev and Furkan.
- Furkan: If you show Furkan the statuette and the dead man’s diary, he will deduce that the man was likely an archaeologist or scholar from Theleme, and that Matheus, the man mentioned in the book, was a famous figure in Theleme’s history who was said to have sailed to distant shores. Furkan will suggest that it is likely that the statuette was carved by Matheus himself after he found himself on this island after leaving the mainland behind.
- Mev: If you ask Mev about the dead man and his idol, she will confirm that this is a votive statuette, made by one of the locals, saying that someone like Gobannon likely made it. She will also say, however, that some of the symbols on the statuette are foreign in nature. After you tell her about what Furkan told you, she will confirm that there might be truth to that story, as there are legends of an “old foreign sage” who was said to have become one of the natives, who might very well have been Matheus himself.
Give the Statuette
There are two people you can give the mysterious statuette to: Furkan and the Chief Woodsman in the Bridge Alliance’s Fort.
- Furkan: If you give the statuette to Furkan, you will receive 350 Experience and +1 Reputation with the Bridge Alliance Faction.
- Chief Woodsman: During the Influence in the Council of Renewal quest, you can give the statuette to the Chief Woodsman in the Bridge Alliance’s Fort who stole the High King’s Gift to get the Gift back from him without resorting to violence. You’ll receive 350 Experience as a reward, alongside the Key to the Sawmill’s Safe, which unlocks the chest where the Gift is hidden.
Regardless of which method you choose, the Mysterious Statuette quest will be marked complete in the journal.
