Mewgenics Mutation Guide
In Mewgenics, mutations are not just variations that show up on your cat’s body… they are actually signs of various buffs or debuffs. While strays and retired cats usually come with variants that are completely random, you can specifically work on creating felines with your desired effect via the breeding system or dropping them in the mutation room.
If you’re wondering how many types of modifications a cat can have in the game, here’s a quick peek at it:
- Body
- Head
- Tail
- Leg
- Eye
- Eyebrow
- Ear
- Mouth
- Fur
Birth Defects are also mutations, but they mostly have negative effects that can glow down your units.
For those interested, the next sections will walk you through all the methods to snag mutant felines, along with the main variants in Mewgenics.

How to Get Mutations in Mewgenics
Players can farm mutations in one of four ways:
Take in Stray Cats
At the start of every day, a stray walks to your house. It could be a mutant stray, which you can identify by looking at its appearance or checking its profile. However, this method is heavily RNG-dependent, but it remains the way early on.
Create a Mutation Room
Next, you can build a mutation room in your house to give your feline a chance to evolve every night. To do so, upgrade your house by sending retired cats to Frank to unlock extra rooms, one of which can be set aside specifically for this purpose. Then, fill it with high-mutation furniture, which you can purchase from Baby Frank’s shop. These are the best ones to grab:

If the items you need aren’t in stock, check back every Sunday for fresh inventory, or collect furniture boxes and chests during your runs. At the end of each night, units inside the room have a chance to automatically gain a modification. This method can push your cats to reach up to 15 mutations.
Complete Adventures
When out on runs, your cats naturally pick up various effects (some good, some bad). The choices you make during adventure events can change your cat’s look and stats, so just make sure to successfully retire them to add them to your roster. Equipping certain weapons and trinkets from battles, like the Uranium Rod and Cancer, can also alter your cat in unexpected ways.

Spread the Genes
Once you have units with the best mutations, you can breed them to pass down their traits to others. To make breeding successful, you’ll need a dedicated room with high comfort and stimulation (high health is a plus). Simply leave pairs there and end the night. New kittens will inherit their parents’ modifications. Remember to have enough food, so your cats don’t end up starving and ruining the night.
