In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, Aerodactyl can be obtained by reviving the Old Amber Fossil at the Cinnabar Island Laboratory. Old Amber can be obtained by talking to the scientist in the building next to the Museum in Pewter City, which is only accessible by using HM01 Cut.

Old Amber Location in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
To get Aerodactyl in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, you’ll first need to find the respective Fossil, the Old Amber. To get Old Amber, take the following steps:
- Get HM01 Cut from S.S. Anne in Vermilion City
- Defeat Misty in Cerulean City to get the ability to use Cut outside of battle.
- Get HM02 Fly on Route 16 by using Cut to access the area north of the sleeping Snorlax.
- Defeat Lt. Surge in Vermilion City to get the ability to use Fly outside of battle.

Use Fly to go back to Pewter City.
- Use Cut to destroy the tree blocking the path to the house next to the Museum.
- Enter the house and talk to the scientist to obtain Old Amber.
How to Revive Aerodactyl in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
To revive Aerodactyl from the Old Amber Fossil, you’ll need to go to Cinnabar Island. If this is your first time going to this location, the fastest way to get there is as follows:
- Get HM03 Surf from the Fuchsia City Safari Zone and defeat Koga to unlock the ability to use it outside of battle.
- Fly to Pallet Town and head north to the beach.
- Use Surf on the water and keep heading north in a straight line until you reach Cinnabar Island.
- Go into the Pokemon Lab next to the Pokemon Center and enter the last room in the corridor to the right.
- Talk to the scientist next to the machine and give him the Old Amber fossil to revive. The scientist will say it will take some time for the fossil to resurrect.
- Exit the Pokemon lab and re-enter immediately.
- Go back to the scientist, and he’ll have revived the Aerodactyl for you.
