Soul Storm and Haunt
If you’re playing Necrobinder with Soul cards, then these two will be your main sources of damage. Haunt causes the otherwise-harmless Soul cards to outright remove HP from enemies — this effect ignores Block and debuffs that reduce the damage you deal. Perhaps more importantly, Haunt cards stack on top of each other. The more copies you use, the more HP is removed from enemies.
Soul Storm, on the other hand, is an attack that directly deals damage to HP, and it gets stronger depending on how many Soul cards are in your Exhaust pile. Having a single copy of this card is great for finishing off high-health opponents, but to get the most out of it, you need to create a ton of Soul cards using the generator cards listed in the table above.
Much like other roguelikes with progression systems, Slay the Spire 2 will give you more cards, Relics, and Potions to play with as you knock out challenges. If you feel like something is missing in your deck, you probably just haven’t unlocked it yet.
Undeath
This is perhaps the best survivability card for the Necrobinder in Slay the Spire 2. Think of it like the Ironclad’s Anger card, except it gives you Block. It’s a self-replicating card, which means the more you use it, the more copies of it you’ll have in your deck during a combat encounter.
Undeath is best used with a Soul deck since it lets you search for cards rapidly. However, it’ll work with pretty much any other setup, provided you aren’t Exhausting cards.
Squeeze and Flatten
Using Squeeze and Flatten together feels like swinging a wrecking ball at your enemies. Both cards revolve around Osty, Necrobinder’s minion, and if you use them together, you’ll be able to deal hundreds of damage in a single turn under the right circumstances.
Squeeze deals massive damage that scales based on how many Osty attack cards you have in your deck. Meanwhile, Flatten deals respectable damage for free, provided that you use an Osty attack card prior to casting this one. Squeeze your enemies first, then use Flatten to finish them off.
This is a glass cannon card combo that will likely get you killed if played recklessly. Combine these cards with ones that grant Block or Summon so you don’t get shredded by enemies every turn, and of course, as with other roguelike games, let your losses teach you how to play better.
Necrobinder Doom Deck
The Doom debuff essentially reduces the max HP of affected targets. The effect itself deals no damage, but once the target’s current HP matches the amount of Doom inflicted on them, the target will get consumed by the void after their turn, killing them instantly.
With that being said, Necrobinder’s Doom cards work somewhat like the Silent’s Poison cards. Stack as much Doom onto your target as possible, then let the debuff do its thing. This will probably take a while, so you’ll want to grab defensive cards to protect yourself with in the meantime.
Doom cards work great in tandem with other Necrobinder card archetypes, especially ones that focus on dealing direct damage like Osty cards. However, if you want to go all-in on Doom, make sure to grab the following:
- Blight Strike (at least 3): This will replace your standard Strike cards. Blight Strike inflicts Doom based on the damage they deal, making effects like Strength and Vulnerable very valuable.
- Grave Warden (at least 3): This will replace your standard Defend skill. Grave Warden grants you Block and sends a Soul card to your Draw Pile, allowing you to search for more Doom spells in future turns.
- Death’s Door (at least 3): Like Grave Warden, the main purpose of Death’s Door is to protect you from incoming attacks. Maintain your Block and HP while stacking Doom to win fights.
- Countdown: Passively applies Doom to enemies at the start of each turn. This card is great once you get enough Block/Doom cards like Grave Warden and Death’s Door.
- No Escape: An extremely efficient way to build up Doom on enemies. You can use this instead of Blight Strike if you don’t want to use any Attack cards.
- Time’s Up: Damages targets based on their total Doom stacks. Pop this once Doom buildup reaches half of the enemy’s HP.
