Genshin Impact Introduces New Characters and Returns to Mondstadt in Version 6.4

By newsgame

Genshin Impact is returning to Mondstadt in Version 6.4, with the debut of Varka as a playable character, the introduction of Lohen, and the rerun of the Mondstadt Chronicled Banner after nearly two years. While Version 6.4 may not offer a lot of content, especially when compared to Version 6.3, it will meaningfully expand the lore of Genshin Impact‘s oldest region while setting up the next chapter of its story. Furthermore, Genshin Impact players can look forward to Varka’s Story Quest in Version 6.4.

In terms of character banners, Version 6.4 will feature Varka and Flins during the first half of the update, while the second half will be headlined by Skirk and Escoffier. From a meta standpoint, many theorycrafters have been hesitant about Varka in Genshin Impact – comparing his damage to Fontaine and early Natlan 5-Stars. Despite this, Varka is expected to draw plenty of interest due to his gameplay, animations, and years of buildup. Flins is coming off the heels of Columbina and Ineffa, allowing players to complete their Lunar-Charged teams, while Escoffier and Skirk continue to be the pinnacle of Frozen teams in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact: Version 6.4 (Luna V) Special Program Announcement

The Special Program Announcement for Version 6.4 was hosted on YouTube and Twitch, providing players with an overview of the upcoming Genshin Impact update. The Flagship Event for Version 6.4 will take place in Mondstadt, rewarding players with a free 4-Star weapon appearance for Catalysts by participating in its story and mini-games. Free-to-play accounts will only be able to obtain a total of 66 Intertwined Wishes over the course of Version 6.4, and as such, they should carefully stock up on their Primogems during Lantern Rite if they aim to pull on any of the Event Banners in Version 6.4 of Genshin Impact.

On top of the Event Banners, Version 6.4 will also mark the return of Mondstadt’s Chronicled Banner to Genshin Impact, featuring Klee, Albedo, Eula, Diluc, Jean, and Mona, as well as any 5-Star weapons associated with Mondstadt and its characters. Version 6.4 will also introduce a new set of Character Anecdotes, new Envisaged Echoes to the Imaginarium Theater, as well as a Nod-Krai map for the Serenitea Pot in Genshin Impact.

Version 6.4 will pit Varka, the Knight of Boreas, against Roland, the Bloodstained Knight. While the Flagship Event and Varka’s Story Quest will largely be self-contained, the upcoming Genshin Impact update can also be seen as a prelude to Dornman Port, a map expansion north of Mondstadt that was teased by Liben in Version 6.2, expected to release shortly after Version 6.4.

For players who are mostly interested in Varka, there are a few things to keep in mind. As seen during the Special Program Announcement, Varka has special team restrictions, needing at least one more Anemo teammate, and two teammates of the same element (Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo). The bulk of his damage comes from his Elemental Skill, where he infuses his dual claymores with the power of Anemo and the other element, effectively swirling his Normal Attacks. While Varka can’t match the best Lunar Reaction teams in Genshin Impact as of Version 6.4, many fans speculate that his best support characters have yet to be released.

The livestream also saw the introduction of Lohen, another member of the Knights of Favonius, rumored to be a 5-Star Cryo character set to release in Version 6.6. Unlike Varka, Lohen is expected to join the Standard Banner in Genshin Impact, with players hoping that he will be one of Varka’s best teammates. Version 6.4 is scheduled to come out on February 25, 2026, with Varka’s debut on the Event Banners.
