There are three types of skills you can unlock in Nioh 3; Common, Samurai, and Ninja. The two latter are for their respective combat styles, while the Common one is for both. To learn more skills, players must search for Secret Skills Text across the map.

The skills you learn in the Skill Management section at the Shrine act mostly as passive buffs, so you don’t need to press certain buttons to activate them.

Secret Skills Text can be found in many places, such as on an Amrita’s body. Some of these bodies are hidden behind Crucible Spikes, forcing players to defeat the waves of enemies to eventually destroy the spike blocking the way.

While exploring, you can also unlock certain chests that’ll reward Secret Skills Text. They are usually big red chests that are guarded by a Wraith or inside an Enemy Base or the Dark Realm.

The more skill capacity you have, the more skills you can activate. Each category has its own capacity and needs its own Memorandum to increase it.

Similar to Secret Skills Text, Memorandum or Texts are also found inside chests or looted from a body. If you have enough of them, praying at a Shrine or a Boddhisatva Statue will increase the capacity.

A more reliable way to get a Memorandum is by exchanging Yokai Teardrops with the merchant. Each four Memorandums increases the skill capacity by one. As the Samurai and Ninja Memorandums increase their own skills’ categories, the Warrior Memorandum increases the Common Skills’ capacity.

Other than the Memorandum, you can also purchase skills to learn from the friendly yokai if you have enough Yokai Teardrops.

It’s essential to keep increasing the skills’ capacity, as some skills need from six to eight points to activate, if not more.

Players can gather Yokai Teardrops in many ways, including defeating formidable enemies, defeating the Kappa enemy, bathing in a hot spring, petting friendly yokai like Scampuss, and so on.

If you are unfamiliar with Kappa, it’s the turtle-like yokai with a big shell on its back that mostly runs away instead of fighting you, and defeating it yields a lot of rewards.
