Enhanced Edition Gets Exciting Update

By newsgame

The long-rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 current-gen upgrade is still on track for a 2026 release, according to one leaker. Rockstar has been under the spotlight lately, mostly for the upcoming launch of GTA 6, but as that date approaches, some fans have wondered about the studio’s other franchises. While there’s no official confirmation that a Red Dead Redemption 2 enhanced edition is in the works, it sounds like the company could release it relatively soon.

Late last year, Rockstar upgraded the original Red Dead Redemption for current-gen consoles, letting Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch 2 owners enjoy the same enhancements Steam users got in 2024. With the first game’s current-gen port out of the way and the second nearing eight years since its release, it seems possible that RDR2 could get the same treatment. Notably, Rockstar announced the first RDR upgrade just one month before it went live, raising questions about whether it could do something similar with its sequel this year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Could Find New Life With the Right Move

Red Dead Redemption 2 is almost a seven-year-old game, but it could find new life if Rockstar makes one highly-requested move.

Leaker Says Red Dead Redemption 2: Enhanced Edition is On Track for 2026 Release

Reputable leaker Nate The Hate responded to a user on Twitter to confirm that, as far as he has heard, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still slated to get a current-gen port this year. This follows a statement in October 2025, where Nate The Hate said Rockstar was working on Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Switch 2 and ninth-generation consoles at the same time. Since then, the rumors have gotten more specific, with 2026 emerging as the potential release window for the enhanced edition. Now, 2026 is here, and thankfully, it sounds like that timeline is still on the table.

Unfortunately, Nate The Hate did not have any more recent updates to offer fans, only saying that he hadn’t heard anything new to suggest the rumored upgrade won’t release this year. However, there is reason to believe this timeline beyond the remarks of one leaker. In mid-2025, users spotted potential evidence for a Red Dead Redemption 2 upgrade on Rockstar’s website. The site gave fans the option to migrate data from Red Dead Online, similarly to how it offered online migration for GTA 5 to let players transfer their saves to newer consoles when that game’s current-gen upgrade came out. Rockstar has since removed that option, but its brief appearance seems to corroborate the theory that an RDR2 ninth-gen port is in the works.

As for when in 2026 the rumored enhanced edition could come out, signs seemingly point to this Spring. It’s reported that Rockstar aims to release Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Switch 2 before the end of its fiscal year, which concludes on March 31. Given that leakers have claimed the Switch 2 port would come out roughly around the same time as the PS5 and Series X/S versions, that window feels like a safe bet. GTA 6 being delayed until November also creates space earlier in the calendar year for a release like an upgraded RDR2 to tide fans over. Of course, fans will only know for sure until Rockstar itself confirms something.

A current-gen upgrade for RDR2 would make a lot of sense from Rockstar’s perspective. It already gave the first game the ninth-gen treatment, so it seems like a natural next step to do the same for its massively popular sequel. While some insiders think Red Dead Redemption 3 is in development, it will likely be some time before that title comes out, so re-launching the second would give fans something to play and keep the series alive until then. Only time will tell what Rockstar’s plans are, but things seem exciting for Red Dead Redemption fans.
