Poker Night at the Inventory Is Returning After Being Delisted Seven Years Ago

By newsgame

On February 4, Skunkape Games surprised fans by revealing that Poker Night at the Inventory is coming back to Steam years after it was delisted in 2019. Along with its return to Steam, Poker Night at the Inventory will also be ported to two additional platforms, bringing more players to the fold.

Originally released on Windows and Mac OS X in November 2010, Poker Night at the Inventory is a crossover game featuring characters from various series as they face off in No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker tournaments. Known for its humorous trash talk and callbacks to series like Sam & Max and Homestar Runner, Poker Night at the Inventory was a single-player experience that could also reward players with items that could be used in Team Fortress 2. After the original iteration of Telltale Games closed in 2018, Poker Night at the Inventory was delisted from Steam in 2019. Thankfully, players who bought the game before Telltale’s closure could still download and install it.

A newly released Steam game sees massive success in player count and sales, with some calling it the platform’s next friendslop star.

Poker Night at the Inventory Returns This March

Seven years after Poker Night at the Inventory closed shop, the studio behind the remasters of Sam & Max is reviving the fan-favorite poker simulator for more fans to enjoy. The long-awaited remaster of Poker Night at the Inventory will be available on Thursday, March 5, and can be wishlisted now on Steam. Along with its return to Steam, Poker Night at the Inventory will be ported to consoles for the first time, as developer Skunkape Games stated that it would launch on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on the same day. However, no pricing information for Poker Night at the Inventory was available as of this writing.

The new iteration of Poker Night at the Inventory will have four NPC poker players to face off against, as Strong Bad (Homestar Runner), The Heavy (Team Fortress 2), Max (Sam & Max), and Tycho (Penny Arcade) will return from the original 2010 game. Poker Night at the Inventory will also have improved gameplay mechanics, as the game’s poker systems have been overhauled to be more accurate and true to each character at the table. New lighting and graphical effects have been added, and each character model has been given higher resolutions and better animations.

Like the first iteration of Poker Night at the Inventory, the upcoming remaster will provide players with some exclusive Team Fortress 2 items as prizes. If a player is lucky, one of the NPC opponents might be short on cash and will throw a personal item into the prize pool. If the player manages to bust out the NPC that contributed a personal item, the item will then be added to the Team Fortress 2 backpack. These items include “The Iron Curtain” minigun and the “Crimestopper Combo” pistol and badge. Since Poker Night at the Inventory has improved its NPC logic, players looking to get a bit of practice beforehand can fire up games like Red Dead Redemption to try some poker.

Additionally, given that a Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase is scheduled to air on February 5 at 9:00 AM Eastern, it is possible that footage from the Switch version of Poker Night at the Inventory could be shown off. That said, both the PS4 and Switch versions of Poker Night at the Inventory will be playable on PS5 and Switch 2, respectively, via backward compatibility.

Thankfully, fans will not have to wait much longer to return to the titular Inventory for another round of Texas Hold’em against Strong Bad and The RED Heavy. Although Steam already has some 2026 game releases that fans should play, the return of Poker Night at the Inventory is just one more chip in a pile of games that fans can enjoy.
