Drunken Precision vs Rhetoric Edge

By newsgame

One of the very first decisions Where Winds Meet throws at players is choosing their starting Aspiration Talents: Drunken Precision or Rhetoric Edge. Unfortunately, the game offers little to no guidance about what these Talents do beyond a vague description that doesn’t mean anything to someone who hasn’t played the game beforehand.

For players venturing into the Jianghu for the first time, it is intimidating to make a seemingly permanent choice before they’ve even managed to unlock their first weapons in Where Winds Meet. This guide goes over everything you need to know about Drunken Precision and Rhetoric Edge as well as which one is the better of the two to begin with.

Drunken Precision and Rhetoric Edge in Where Winds Meet Explained

Drunken Precision and Rhetoric Edge are Aspiration Talents in Where Winds Meet that make certain minigames slightly easier during the early stages. Neither of these skills is missable, and both Drunken Precision and Rhetoric Edge unlock automatically very early on in Where Winds Meet.

Regardless of which one you choose, you’ll be able to acquire the other one fairly soon in your playthrough. The unlock requirements for these two Talents and their effects are as follows:

Aspiration Talent

Effect

Unlock Requirement

Drunken Precision

Use this skill in the Pitch Pot minigame to gain the Tipsy effect, shortening your aim time to one minute (default 2 minutes). Cooldown: 180 seconds.

  • Total Aspiration Attributes: 200
  • Resolve: 30

Rhetoric Edge

Start with +2 Inspiration Points in the Gift of Gab minigame.

  • Total Aspiration Attributes: 200
  • Intelligence: 30

What is Pitch Pot?

Pitch Pot is a minigame where you are competing against another player/AI and have to use your Keyboard/Mouse or Controller to keep reticles inside a constantly shifting on-screen circle for a set period of time. The party that is better at stabilizing wins. Drunken Precision shortens the time you need to keep the reticle balanced.

Drunken Precision is an active skill, meaning you need to activate it during a Pitch Pot game to shorten the aim time.

What is Gift of Gab?

Gift of Gab is a minigame where you have to debate against an opponent using sentences written on cards. All cards have special effects like damage, healing, utility, and require a certain amount of inspiration to play. The Rhetoric Edge Talent increases this inspiration by +2 from the get-go.

What are Aspiration Talents and Aspiration Attributes?

There are 11 Attributes in Where Winds Meet: Resolve, Elegance, Perception, Coordination, Intelligence, Musicality, Constitution, Erudition, Memory, Mindset, and Ambition. With the exception of Ambition, which increases when you level up, all of the rest of these attributes are related to two or three minigames apiece, and the main way to increase them is by playing those minigames.

From our testing, you only need to participate in two or three relevant minigames to unlock the Aspiration Talent you did not pick during the starting choice. So if you picked Rhetoric Edge during character creation in WWM, you’ll unlock Drunken Precision after completing three Pitch Pot games.

Total Aspiration Attributes and Aspiration Talents can be found in Start Menu -> Develop -> Details (right corner of the screen) -> Exploration Mastery -> Exploration Attributes.

Should You Choose Drunken Precision or Rhetoric Edge in Where Winds Meet?

Choosing between Drunken Precision and Rhetoric Edge depends on which minigame you find harder to beat in Where Winds Meet. In our experience, picking Rhetoric Edge is the better choice as the Gift of Gab minigame is a lot more confusing compared to the Pitch Pot minigame.

Players need to read card descriptions to come up with strategies while they are on a timer that is constantly ticking down. Although Rhetoric Edge isn’t a game-changer, it helps alleviate some of the pressure in these debates.

On the other hand, Pitch Pot is a much easier minigame compared to Gift of Gab. While Drunken Precision certainly does make it easier to win, winning isn’t a challenge to begin with, especially against AI.
