New Steam Game is Like Stardew Valley Meets Diablo
A newly announced Steam game, releasing in Early Access in Summer 2026, aims to combine Diablo and Stardew Valley and expand the “farm & fight” subgenre of cozy games. That game is called Emberville, from developer Cygnus Cross, and boasts an engaging combat system (described as simple yet deep), an expansive skills system, and challenging boss fights. That part obviously comes from the Diablo influence, as well as other features like classes, but don’t get it confused: the pixel art, customization options, and overall vibe also lean into Stardew Valley.
However, instead of the tired trope of inheriting land from a grandparent, players awake engulfed in the darkness of an endless prison. It’s known as the Vitromotus, and the only way players survive it is thanks to their desire for freedom. Indeed, there are many farming simulators on Steam, but at first blush, this may be the only one to start with players as prisoners. Players learn to navigate the Vitromotus and emerge into the titular town. Once a thriving town, its people are now imprisoned and it has fallen into disarray, setting up the Stardew Valley-like gameplay loop of bringing the town to life.
Beyond the expected features of a game described as “Diablo meets Stardew Valley,” players are tasked with saving the civilians of Emberville. In doing so, players will learn about their trades and skills, unlock deep secrets, and uncover dreams, all while engaging in a series of fun quests. It does, overall, remain to be seen how its farming simulator mechanics are tied into the overarching gameplay loop, but at least one screenshot evokes the “farm next to house” image that is iconic of Stardew Valley.

While there’s still a lot to be shown for Emberville, it’s worth reiterating that its Summer 2026 launch is in Early Access. Players will be able to provide input for future changes, content additions, and so forth. But looking at these screenshots paints a pretty picture nonetheless. There are key elements necessary for any good farming simulator, including mining, fishing, and exploration. Of course, the endless prison feels like another flavor of Stardew Valley‘s mines, too, but that’s a good thing in my book.
In general, it seems like Emberville is a game that both Diablo fans and Stardew Valley fans will want to keep an eye on. It remains to be seen how it lives up to either game/franchise, especially given its scope in comparison to the Diablo games, but it’s promising at every word and screenshot.
