By newsgame

A Pokemon Pokopia player online has discovered an interesting Machop Easter egg that is a deep cut reference to the original games in the series. This small Easter egg would be easily missed by most, but this Pokopia player recognized it thanks to their deep Pokemon lore knowledge.

Pokemon Pokopia is the series’ first foray into the life simulator genre, and developers Game Freak and Omega Force have hit it out of the park. Reviews for the game made Pokemon Pokopia the highest-rated Pokemon title of all time, a massive achievement given the series’ long and acclaimed history. The game was hailed as an excellent blend of cozy life simulators like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, while still delivering a memorable Pokemon experience along the way. As a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, it quickly became one of the big reasons to pick up the latest Nintendo home console, especially for those who were quite happy with their original Switch.

Pokemon Pokopia Machop Easter Egg is a Deep Cut to Gen 1 and 2

Redditor darthmeteos has spotted an awesome Pokemon Pokopia Easter egg, which can be found in the ruins of Vermillion City. Players can read a tablet in the city ruins, which reveals that a man named Kenzo completed construction of a building in the area with the help of a Machamp, fulfilling a dream his family had “for generations.” Many players will remember the old man in Pokemon Red and Blue who was building something on the land in Vermillion City. He also returned in Generation 2 games Pokemon Gold and Silver, this time with an evolved Machoke, continuing to build on the same plot of land. This Pokopia reveal solves this three-decade-old mystery, showing that the man finished his building after all, but not before evolving his Pokemon companion into a Machamp.

Some users in the thread lamented the fact that Game Freak had never taken the opportunity to solve this Pokemon mystery sooner, while others were surprised that the developer remembered that this man existed in Pokopia. Some did find it ironic that the man and his Machamp finished the building together, fulfilling a generational dream, only for the world to end.

Since Pokemon Pokopia‘s release on March 5, players have been on the lookout for secrets and Easter eggs hidden by the developer. There have been some very cool discoveries so far, such as a hidden reference to Gen 10 titles Pokemon Winds and Waves that can be found early in the game. Given that it’s still so soon after its release, there will no doubt be even more Pokopia secrets uncovered in the coming weeks and months.

It’s going to be an exciting period for Pokemon fans. This year marks the franchise’s 30th anniversary, and The Pokemon Company is celebrating the milestone in style. The recent Pokemon Presents event offered a better look at what fans can expect from the future of the franchise, including the announcement of Generation 10 titles Pokemon Winds and Waves, which will be released in 2027.
