February PlayStation State of Play Hinted at by Insider

By newsgame

A new rumor floating around the internet originating from a known insider has indicated that Sony is planning to kick off a new PlayStation State of Play in February. With the start of the new year, there remain a lot of questions and open holes within the 2026 release calendar, leaving fans wondering when some of the bigger announced games are actually launching. If the latest rumor is true, Sony may be preparing to answer at least some of those questions when it comes to its PlayStation platform.

Traditionally, February has been a big month for announcements, with franchises like Pokemon typically holding showcases. In fact, Sony has a track record of February State of Plays, and one could argue that the company is overdue to hold a new showcase. The last one to air was back in November 2025, which focused primarily on games being developed in Japan and prior to that, fans got a State of Play in September detailing Housemarque’s Saros, the first look at Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games, and many more game announcements. If the latest rumors are true, more game announcements are right around the corner.

PlayStation State of Play Rumored for February

Industry insider NateTheHate responded to a fan calling into question a recent rumor indicating a Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced version, standing by the original source. Randomly, a new user jumped into the conversation and changed the subject, asking if Nate had heard of a potential State of Play coming in February, to which the insider confirmed outright, saying, “There will be, yes.” While Nate appears confident, fans should take the rumor with a grain of salt for now, until Sony outright confirms it.

However, one detail that Nate didn’t mention at all is which games might be showing up, leaving fans to speculate. It’s possible Sony will use this as a vehicle to continue promoting Bungie’s Marathon prior to its March 5 release date with a new trailer or an official announcement regarding a free trial weekend to check out the game. It’s possible Resident Evil Requiem also makes another appearance, perhaps with a launch trailer or something of the like, considering the game launches at the end of February.

So far, there are only a handful of PlayStation games confirmed for 2026, with Saros, Wolverine, and MLB The Show 26, all of which could feature again in some capacity. It’s likely that fans are itching for another look at the visceral combat of Wolverine once again, and with Saros launching in the Spring, there seems to be plenty more that Housemarque could reveal or show off. Although only a publisher, Sony could also reveal new details about Arc System Works’ upcoming fighter, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, as fans are always keen to learn more about the game’s continually expanding roster of superheroes and villains.

However, there will likely be a number of surprises as well, with 3–4 first-party titles likely not filling enough of the 2026 calendar. One of the biggest questions is what Sony Santa Monica has been up to, with rumors of a new God of War title being constantly discussed. Previous rumors have hinted at the series moving to Egyptian mythology, though one of the bigger questions is who will be the protagonist of the new series.

Another big question mark is from Naughty Dog, who is currently developing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. While the project has largely gone dark after its initial reveal all the way back at the 2024 Game Awards. Fans would no doubt love to see a new trailer for the mysterious game, though it seems like things might be progressing slower than expected at the studio. Late last year, reports from insiders like Jason Schreier indicated that Naughty Dog enacted mandatory overtime to finish an internal demo for Intergalactic. For a game that many don’t expect to launch until 2027, the necessity of crunch already left most surprised and a bit worried.
