Overwatch 2 Begins Crazy Talon-Themed Marketing Campaign
Overwatch 2 has been taken over by Talon, and it seems like Vendetta, the new damage hero from Season 20, is behind it all. From official social media outlets to actual in-game logos, Overwatch 2 has been rebranded by the villainous organization in what promises to be a massive marketing campaign for the hero shooter’s upcoming updates.
In Overwatch 2 Season 20, Vendetta was officially added to the roster of playable heroes. The daughter of Antonio Bartalotti, the Talon executive killed by Gabriel “Reaper” Reyes during the Overwatch Archives mission, Vendetta has a score to settle with both Overwatch and Talon, and Blizzard has been teasing her plans since she was first revealed.
Overwatch 2 Has Been Completely Taken Over by Talon
Now, Overwatch 2 has unveiled what could be its biggest marketing campaign to date. Talon has completely taken over Overwatch 2, with all of its official social media accounts getting in on the rebranding. The Overwatch 2 Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts all now sport a brand-new Talon logo and have been posting ominous images, videos, and statements. “Talon has seized control of this channel,” the new Twitter description states. “Only we possess the power to reshape history.”
However, this hostile takeover is not constrained to social media alone. The game client itself has also been hijacked by Talon, with the Overwatch 2 logos on the main menu, match finder, and other locations being replaced. Even the Battle.net game client’s logo has been altered – though it is still the Overwatch O, the orange bar has become red, with an ominous matching glow behind it.
What Does Talon’s Hostile Takeover Mean for Overwatch 2?
The phrase “Reign of Talon” appeared multiple times in the images shared during this ambitious marketing campaign, though they were removed shortly after. At the very least, this could be the name for Overwatch 2 Season 21, which is scheduled to start February 10. However, the scope of this takeover suggests it may be more than a single season. It could be that “Reign of Talon” is a multi-season theme or some other significant initiative that will be explored in Overwatch 2. If the Talon banners and cannons seen on Rialto in a GIF shared by Overwatch 2 on Twitter are any indication, this might even include long-term map adjustments.
Regardless of what it is, Vendetta is at the heart of this Overwatch 2 campaign. The new Talon logo looks a lot like a wolf, and considering one of Vendetta’s monikers is “La Lupa,” it would be more surprising if she wasn’t involved at this point. What’s more, Overwatch 2 shared a bunch of images featuring Talon-aligned heroes on Twitter, including Vendetta – but suspiciously excluding Doomfist.
A credible Overwatch 2 leaker recently claimed Vendetta would be ousting Doomfist in order to take over Talon in an upcoming cinematic, and this marketing campaign is only making that seem more likely by the hour. Overwatch 2 cinematic and narrative creative director Jason Hill broke his near six-month silence on Twitter to comment about this phenomenon as well, heavily suggesting a new cinematic may be coming soon.
Luckily, Overwatch 2 fans probably won’t have to wait long to find out exactly what is going on. Overwatch 2 will likely start revealing stuff for the first season of the year in the next week or two. Additionally, the first Overwatch 2 Spotlight event took place on February 12, 2025, so it would not be surprising if Blizzard scheduled a new one this year to tease the seasons and heroes coming to the game in 2026.
Speaking of which, Overwatch 2 might have teased two new heroes recently as well. A Storytime video called “The Invitation,” combined with datamined ultimate voicelines, heavily suggest Wuyang’s sister Anran could be coming to the game soon, while the “Search & Destroy” comic revealed a modern Overwatch 2-era look for Emre Sarioglu, a character who has been teased for almost a decade. Between Anran’s fiery fans, Emre’s combustive hardlight powers, and whatever Vendetta is doing with Talon, it is no exaggeration to say Overwatch 2 has been turning up the heat recently, it doesn’t show signs of stopping any time soon.
