Black Ops 7 Sales Are Way Down in 1 Country

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 had a disappointing launch weekend in the UK, with physical sales being significantly worse than last year’s Call of Duty. The latest entry in the 22-year-old franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 brings a new campaign, a new Zombies experience, and a new suite of multiplayer content for fans to work through, though they’re divided on whether the package is worth it this time around.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 currently has an 82 critic score on MetaCritic, its user score tells a very different tale, currently sitting at a rather dismal 1.7 from 1,684 user reviews. A common point of criticism across these reviews is Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s campaign, with its over-the-top boss fights, less grounded tone, and open Warzone-like levels all being heavily criticized.

It seems this general lack of enthusiasm for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 may have impacted the game’s launch sales. Game Business editor-in-chief Christopher Dring took to X on November 17 to share that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s retail launch in the UK was smaller than that of Battlefield 6‘s, meaning that Black Ops 7‘s physical sales were lower. Though Dring didn’t give exact figures in his X post, he did state this data came from GfK, a very reputable independent market research institute that collates sales data from physical storefronts.

Despite not selling as many physical copies as Battlefield 6 during its own launch, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 still debuted at the very top of the UK sales chart, taking the number one spot above EA Sports FC26, Mario Kart World, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Five weeks after launch, Battlefield 6 currently holds the number five spot on the UK physical sales charts. But even at this number one spot, Dring claims that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s physical sales in the UK are down 61% compared to last year’s Black Ops 6.

Of course, these stats only encompass physical sales in the UK, and that doesn’t necessarily mean the data can be extrapolated to other regions. It’s possible that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 performed well in the US and other regions, and that digital sales paint a better picture of the game’s launch success.

That said, it’s still unlikely Black Ops 7 has reached the heights of its predecessor’s launch, with Activision being immediately vocal when Black Ops 6 was the “biggest Call of Duty ever,” but remaining quiet on how much Black Ops 7 has sold so far. It’s also possible that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s place on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has affected its physical sales, though that’s purely speculation at this point.
