Epic Games Store Officially Reveals Its January 29 Free Game

By newsgame

Definitely Not Fried Chicken has been officially revealed as the Epic Games Store‘s final free game for January 2026. The wacky management sim title will be available to claim beginning January 29, with Epic Games Store users being able to grab two other freebies in the meantime.

Definitely Not Fried Chicken is a unique management sim game that tasks players with running a fast food joint, but with a twist: they’re actually managing a drug business and the food thing is just a front. As such, the game essentially challenges them to become Breaking Bad‘s Gustavo Fring, although it expands on the restaurant part of the equation by allowing significant diversification into different types of food and even other business ventures. Definitely Not Fried Chicken was originally launched for PC in September 2023, spending the first two years of its existence as a Steam exclusive.

Epic Games Store: A Comprehensive List Of Every Free Game It’s Had To Date

Here’s a list of all the games that have been made free on the Epic Games Store. You have until January 29 to get the current free game.

Definitely Not Fried Chicken Coming to Epic Games Store, Will Be Free at Launch

The wacky management sim game has recently been confirmed for the Epic Games Store, where it will release on January 29. As it turns out, it will be free at launch, with Epic just announcing it as its final freebie for January 2026. Definitely Not Fried Chicken will be available to claim for exactly seven days, until February 5, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET. Its free-to-grab period will start as soon as the Epic Games Store’s newly launched Rustler giveaway comes to an end.

True to its name, Definitely Not Fried Chicken first asks players to generate a healthy cash flow with legitimate offerings, then use the profits to branch out into more illicit products that are definitely not fried chicken. Over time, the legal side of their operations will also expand, with the goal being to make it good enough to have a legitimate cover for one’s sprawling drug empire. While each stage of a given playthrough comes with its own scope and challenges, the core business sim gameplay loop remains largely the same, revolving around careful balancing of growth and the risk of attracting unwanted attention.

Definitely Not Fried Chicken presently has 71.50% positive player reviews on Steam, based on nearly 2,000 user impressions. That qualifies it for the “Mostly Positive” review category on Valve’s digital storefront. Looking at the actual contents of these reviews, hundreds of players praised its breadth of micromanagement options and highly engaging progression loop where the next upgrade or other kind of milestone is never too far away. Multiple one-sentence reviews on Steam also acknowledge its obvious Breaking Bad inspirations, describing it as a “Los Pollos Hermanos simulator.”

While some players have recently criticized it for a lack of updates—which may have been at least partially caused by some recent publisher troubles—Definitely Not Fried Chicken has overall earned a reputation as one of the best modern strategy games focused on building a criminal empire. It should thus serve as a worthy addition to Epic’s ever-rotating selection of freebies, of which six have already been launched throughout January 2026, beginning with Wildgate and Total War: Three Kingdoms on the first day of the year.

While waiting for the Definitely Not Fried Chicken giveaway to arrive, Epic Games Store users are able to claim a unique combination of Grand Theft Auto and Monty Python influences called Rustler. As an open-world action adventure with a top-down perspective, the 2021 game is immediately evocative of the 2D-era GTA entries. It also doesn’t take its medieval setting too seriously, as it’s filled to the brim with modern references.
