New Minecraft-Like Game Could Be Coming to PS5

The massively popular Hytale may find itself coming to PlayStation 5 in the future, it has been revealed. Due to its striking visual similarities, Hytale has quickly drawn big comparisons to Minecraft following its recent release, and players are eager to see what comes next for the game.

The story of Hytale‘s release is pretty incredible. Development on the game started over a decade ago, when the creator of the Minecraft Hypixel server chose to pursue his own title. However, its development was fraught with difficulties, and Hytale was finally canceled in June 2025. A fan petition to save the game quickly gained traction, and one of its original founders would purchase the game from Riot Games soon after. Hytale launched into early access on January 13 and has rapidly gained momentum among players online. Player feedback on the game has been overwhelmingly positive, despite it still being far from a full release. It has received plenty of praise for its similarities to Minecraft, with building mechanics that are similar as well as the obvious visual resemblance, while also integrating deeper RPG survival mechanics more prevalent in games like Valheim.

Hytale May Be Coming To Consoles In the Future

It was recently revealed in Hytale‘s first FAQ that the game could come to consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, in the future. While the game is only available on PC at the moment, Executive Director Patrick “Lyall” Derbic confirmed that plans are underway to bring Hytale to consoles going forward, saying, “We are planning for a console release at a later stage, but this requires a lot of work on backend systems to make this a reality, so it’s not something we want to invest resources into right now. For now, we would like to focus on making a good game first.” However, Lyall does reiterate that this potential console release won’t arrive before Hytale leaves early access.

In the same FAQs, the developer also addressed the possibility of Hytale coming to other platforms, including mobile and Steam. On mobile, the answer was very similar to that of consoles, claiming, “We are still evaluating what it would take to make this a feasible reality and will keep you updated once we know more.”

We are planning for a console release at a later stage, but this requires a lot of work on backend systems to make this a reality, so it’s not something we want to invest resources into right now.

On the topic of Steam, Lyall says the developer would rather work with the Minecraft-like game’s existing community “to improve the game, rather than chasing a flood of cold first impressions that could overcorrect the game’s direction.” Lyall clarifies that the studio doesn’t “shy away from honest, negative criticism,” but rather just wants “the first steps of our journey to be influenced by informed players rather than large-scale first impressions from those unfamiliar with the game’s development background.” It’s not a definitive “no” on Steam, but rather, “we don’t see the need for it,” and Lyall also says that “Steam currently doesn’t support some of our modding features; we will be in contact with Valve in the near future to see what’s possible.”

Now that Hytale is out to the public, the next few months will be crucial as the developer begins to act on massive amounts of feedback. The game’s huge success will ensure it has plenty to go off, and it’ll be exciting to see where it goes next. It was recently confirmed that Hytale will be supported for a long time after the developer secured the next two years of development costs through pre-purchases. Given how word of mouth is rapidly spreading about Hytale, it should be set for a long and prosperous future.
