Overwatch 2 Reveals New Hero 45 Vendetta

Overwatch 2 has officially revealed Vendetta, the new sword-wielding gladiator hero coming to the game in Season 20. The 45th playable character in Overwatch 2 officially arrives on December 9, but players can try her out during her Hero Trial starting November 26.

During the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event, Blizzard revealed Freja and Wuyang, the first two of three characters planned for this year. However, it also teased the third hero in the form of a small cartoon that could be seen in the background. In the many months since then, Blizzard has dropped tons of other teasers for Hero 45, from map Easter eggs to a collectible mask in Overwatch 2 Season 19’s Haunted Masquerade mode.

Overwatch 2 Hero 45 Vendetta Backstory Revealed

Now, Overwatch 2 has finally pulled back the curtain on Hero 45. Named Vendetta, this Italian gladiator at the Colosseo of Overwatch 2 is also known as La Lupa, and is an infamous heel who made a name for herself dismantling gigantic mechs with her massive sword coated in black flames. That said, what makes her especially dangerous is her history. Vendetta is none other than the daughter of Antonio Giordani, a former high-ranking arms dealer, smuggler, and businessman for Talon.

Gamers who played the old Overwatch 2 Archives missions might recognize this name. Giordani was one of the main antagonists of the Overwatch Retribution Blackwatch mission. In the story, Giordani is shot and killed by Gabriel Reyes, who led the strike team consisting of Cassidy, Moira, and Genji.

Needless to say, with Reyes – now known as Reaper – and Moira in Talon, and Cassidy and Genji being a part of Overwatch, Vendetta has reasons to come for both sides of the classic conflict between the two organizations. Ramattra’s words to Zenyatta in their recent Overwatch 2 comic also suggest as much, and with Null Sector retreating, the stage has been set for Vendetta to become a new major antagonist for nearly every other playable hero in the game right now.

Vendetta’s role and abilities have not been revealed yet, but during the cinematic, she blocks bullets with her blade, leaps high into the air, and cleaves a massive superweapon in two with her flaming sword, suggesting she may be a tank hero. Additionally, judging from her mask in the Haunted Masquerade game mode, she will likely focus on melee damage, ability power, and movement speed. Regardless, fans will definitely learn within the next couple of weeks, because Vendetta will be playable from November 26 through December 1 during her Hero Trial weekend.
