Marvel Rivals Releases Patch Notes for January 8 Update

By newsgame

Marvel Rivals gets a new update for January 8, sharing the patch notes with players and revealing new cosmetic skins in the store, a Pym-ini Sandwhich upgrade, while also making changes to 4 playable heroes. After a strong end to 2025, NetEase is looking to continue the momentum of Marvel Rivals into 2026. The company appears ready to do just that as the anticipated sixth season is now right around the corner with other big surprises being teased as well.

Thanks to the coop Marvel Zombies mode and the first anniversary of Marvel Rivals, NetEase enjoyed a very strong end to 2025, one that saw the player numbers boom once again. As Season 5 comes to an end, NetEase doesn’t appear to be resting on its successes as 2026 begins, as Marvel Rivals is teasing some major plans for this year, calling the previous year just a “warm up” and that the studio has already mapped out some big plans in the coming months. For now, Marvel Rivals received a new update, which players can read all about below.

Marvel Rivals Players Are Frustrated With the Absolute State of Quick Play

Marvel Rivals players come together to express their collective frustration with the current state of Quick Play in NetEase Games’ hero shooter.

Originally thought to be a tease for the eventual arrival of Ant-Man to the playable roster, the January 8, 2026, update is making a couple of tweaks to Pym’s Test Kitchen in Marvel Rivals‘ Times Square map. While curious players can continue to head to the Test Kitchen location to receive a Pym-Ini Sandwich and see what sort of random effect is gained, the location received an “upgrade” this week in which the cooldown has been reduced to just 30 minutes, down from the previous 1 hour. In addition, the visual effects of shrinking or growing giant have been fixed and improved overall.

The update also makes a number of adjustments to the game, including a fix for the recently released Lady Loki skin for Marvel Rivals. Specifically, when using Loki’s ultimate, it would incorrectly display the default Loki avatar. Cloak & Dagger’s ultimate could also result in the visual effects being completely removed, which has been fixed here. Adam Warlock could sometimes resurrect players where they died, which could result in glitches. Finally, Rogue’s Chrono Kick Combo could result in the character being knocked down for longer than expected if she collided mid-air with an enemy and defeated them during the crash. That is also fixed.

Lastly, the in-game Marvel Rivals store has also received two new cosmetic outfits for those who are looking to spend a little extra. The Duelist hero Phoenix is getting a new bundle that leans into the winter theme in the game. The Ice Phoenix Costume not only gives her a new look, but also a new MVP win screen and “frost-fire” visual effects for her abilities.

The second cosmetic bundle belongs to the Strategist character Adam Warlock. The Cosmic Warlock Bundle gives the character an all-new look that leans heavily into his space origins, as well as a helmet to hide his face if that’s what people want. While adorned in gold armor, other aspects of his outfit have a galaxy-style visual effect for a bit of added flair. Players will likely need to spend their currency in Marvel Rivals to get these outfits and bundles, either Lattice or Units.

Pym-ini Sandwich Upgrade

Hungry for some hero fuel? This week, Pym’s Test Kitchen has upgraded its food truck and Pym-ini Sandwiches:

  1. Food Truck Cooldown Reduced: We’ve super-charged Ultron-1’s code to crank out those sandwiches even faster (he seems happy about it). The Pym Test Kitchen food truck now refreshes every 30 minutes!
  2. Visual Feast: Most of the visual effect issues from consuming Pym-ini Sandwiches have been polished and fixed. Your ups and downs now look extra epic.

Fixes

All Platforms

  1. Avatar Anomaly: Fixed an issue with the Lady Loki costume lord avatar display. Loki’s mischief has been put to an end!
  2. Multi-Form Guidance Glitch: Fixed an issue where hero multi-form guides could pop up repeatedly under certain conditions. Guidance now appears only when needed, no more déjà vu.

Heroes

  1. Loki’s Double Take: When equipped with the Lady Loki costume, Loki’s ultimate transformation would incorrectly show the default Loki avatar in combat stats. Now, her true face shines through; no identity confusion!
  2. Cloak & Dagger’s Light Show: Fixed a rare bug where using Light’s Embrace and Ultimate Ability simultaneously could cause the ultimate to lose its visual effects. The duo’s powers are back to dazzling!
  3. Adam Warlock’s Resurrection Relocation: Reviving teammates with Adam Warlock’s ultimate at certain locations could resurrect them at the spot they were defeated. Now, heroes return to battle where they’re meant to; no more ghostly glitches!
  4. Rogue’s Tumble Trouble: If Rogue collided mid-air with an enemy using Chrono Kick Combo, and that enemy was defeated during the crash, Rogue could remain knocked down for longer than intended. She now springs back into action with X-tra resilience!
