New 6-Player Co-Op Horror Game on Steam Mashes Sea of Thieves Energy with REPO’s Presentation
2025 could be described as the year of friendslop games, with releases like PEAK, REPO, and RV There Yet finding their own niche within the larger co-op genre. Still, there are enduring co-op games like Phasmophobia and Sea of Thieves that could justifiably be called friendslop as well. It remains to be seen if 2026 lives up to such endearing titles, but a brand new Steam title announced today could be coming for their crowns. Dig Dig Die is an interesting 1-6 player co-op horror game where pirates rob graves.
Playable solo or with 5 friends (6 players total) on Steam, Dig Dig Die sees all its players step into the shoes of stylized, bean-like Pirates that are not unlike the character models of REPO. Players will need to work together to protect themselves and acquire loot from coffins and crypts, not unlike a typical ghost hunt in Phasmophobia. But more than anything, it’s hard to deny the connection to Sea of Thieves when the players’ cursed flying ship feels so much like the ships of that game.
Once players arrive in the graveyard, they are tasked with finding various kinds of loot via crypts and coffins, thanks to various equippable items like shovels, crowbars, and weapons. These lootable spots include valuables, boosters like speed enhancements and the ability to super jump, expansive trap rooms, or a lurking monster ready to attack the player. Every graveyard is haunted by all kinds of supernatural beings, however. Not only do monsters hear every sound uttered by the players, but even UFOs can also attack and abduct the player. At the end of a run, players return to their pirate ship, can play various gambling games in the hold, and obtain gameplay boosters from vending machines.

Dig Dig Die Is an Early Entry in the Friendslop Games of 2026
Pure slop chaos and friend betrayal
Like any good game of Sea of Thieves or REPO, a lot of the fun comes from playing with friends. Sea of Thieves, REPO, and soon Dig Dig Die are all about giving players a chaotic platform to engage in various friendship-oriented activities. As such, fans can expect “emergent chaos, betrayal, and unforgettable co-op moments,” according to developer Alice Games. What’s perhaps most interesting is the phrase “betrayal.”
Alice Games may simply mean friends failing to rescue each other or leaving them to the various graveyard montrosities, as it has not yet revealed any Among Us-style social deduction elements to the game, but that would be yet another fun addition to this game in the growing friendslop genre. In many ways, Among Us could be considered a herald of the friendslop genre, but with all eyes on 2026, it’ll be interesting to see if Dig Dig Die hits the mark and what else follows this growing, popular trend.
