Sony Reveals 3 Brand New PS5 Console and DualSense Cover Colors
Sony just revealed a trio of brand-new covers for both the PS5 and its DualSense controllers, with three bright and colorful options available. The newest console in the PlayStation lineup has been a popular option for gamers since its debut in late 2020, handily beating out Xbox’s main competitor in the Xbox Series X/S. The PS5 has sold more than 84 million units to date, and while it is still a long way off from the Nintendo Switch, Sony had a dominant performance throughout the 2025 holiday season. Sony has also made an array of customizable PS5 options available to fans.
The PS5 has received two major console revisions since its launch, welcoming both the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro. The Slim, as the name would suggest, boasts a smaller form factor than the original PS5, with Sony also selling a separate detachable disc drive for the Digital Edition. The PS5 Pro boasts some major improvements to the original console, with a significantly faster GPU, more storage space, and many games receiving big upgrades on the PS5 Pro. Now, PS5 users can trick out their consoles with three brand-new console and controller covers.
All Big Upcoming PS5 Games For 2026 & Beyond
From JRPGs to platform, racing, and open-world titles, here are all the big new PS5 games releasing in 2026 and later.
PS5 Has Three New Console Colors Coming This Year
Sony officially revealed a trio of new console covers for the PS5 and DualSense controllers, unveiling the “Hyperpop” collection. Each cover boasts a gradient design, melting from a solid black at the top of the cover to a bright neon red, green, or blue at the bottom. The images included with the post highlight the covers on the PS5’s Slim model, with no confirmation about whether the alternate colors will be coming for the PS5 Pro as well. Sony also revealed some important dates for fans in regard to the new console covers, confirming that pre-orders will open on January 16 with the covers officially launching on March 12.
The stunning new console covers for Sony are far from the first time the company has offered some flashy PS5 alternatives. The PS5 previously received a wide variety of differently-colored console covers, allowing players to switch out the basic white plate for a new look. Sony has also often collaborated with popular brands and games to debut limited-edition controllers, like Sony’s recent partnership with Genshin Impact to create an exclusive PS5 controller. The developer even launched a special grey PS5 inspired by the original PlayStation as a limited release during last year’s 30th anniversary.
Sony and the PS5 Had a Big Year in 2025
The PS5’s new covers are the perfect way for fans to ring in the new year after a massively successful 2025 for the console. 2025 marked the fifth anniversary of the PlayStation 5, with the PS5 officially crossing the 80 million units sold milestone in August. One of Sony’s biggest exclusives of the year saw major success as well, with Death Stranding 2: On The Beach named as a finalist for Game of the Year at the 2025 Game Awards. The PS5 even welcomed some of Xbox’s biggest franchises to the console for the first time, with Forza Horizon 5 debuting on PS5 in April and Gears of War: Reloaded in August.
With all the PS5’s success in 2025, Sony has set the console up for another big year in 2026. Some of Sony’s most highly-anticipated exclusives are scheduled to release during 2026, including Marvel’s Wolverine and Phantom Blade Zero throughout the year. 2026 is set to welcome the release of some major multi-platform games, with both the massively-hyped Grand Theft Auto 6 and Resident Evil: Requiem. Sony will even add one of Xbox’s biggest former exclusives, gearing up for Microsoft to launch Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5. Fans of Sony should keep an eye on the PS5 in 2026, with lots in store for the console.
