How to Unlock Flight in Where Winds Meet

By newsgame

The world of Where Winds Meet is huge, and while Boundary Stones act as fast travel points, and horses can be ridden for quick navigation, they aren’t quite as cool as flying. Yes, you can fly in Where Winds Meet, but there are a few requirements that you need to satisfy first before you can take to the skies. In this guide, we’ll be covering these requirements to help you unlock flight as early as possible.

Flight can be done by using any one of the four flying-related Lightness Skills, namely:

  • Meteor Flight
  • Thousand-Mile Flight
  • Fan Glider
  • Wind Rider

All of these are essentially the same, but they differ in animations. Meteor Flight is likely to be the first one that players unlock during their playthrough; to get it, you’ll need to finish the Afterglow side quest in Qinghe.

Thousand-Mile Flight is unlocked after your fourth log-in as part of the Warrior’s Journey reward track. Meanwhile, Fan Glider and Wind Rider are unlocked by leveling up your Qinghe Exploration rank.

Afterglow Side Quest Guide

You can start this quest by going to the Jianghu Legacy tab of your Journal. It’s the fifth quest on the list, though you don’t necessarily have to do any of the other Where Winds Meet side quests first before starting this one. Afterglow begins once you talk to a martial master near Moonveil Mountain who has disguised himself as an ordinary fisherman.

Once you’ve started the quest through your journal, go to the marked area on the map and look for the fisherman near the pond. Talk to him, and he’ll give you a taste of what Meteor Flight is like. After flying, you’ll land at the beach near Blissful Retreat, and surprisingly, the fisherman will already be there once you arrive.

In order to fully unlock Meteor Flight, you need to pass the fisherman’s challenge. He’ll ask you to jump to his boat in the water by using floating wine jars as platforms. The game will keep you from overshooting while jumping and dashing, so don’t worry about the platforming bit and just head to the boat. Once you’re there, speak with the fisherman again, then take the book and long spear resting nearby.

Unfortunately, we’re not done yet, as there’s a major restriction in place that’ll keep you from using Meteor Flight right from the get-go.

To use Meteor Flight or other flight skills, simply hold the Jump button.

If you try to use Meteor Flight after the Afterglow quest, the screen will cut to black, and you’ll find yourself on the same beach where the fisherman challenged you. He’ll tell you that flying in Qinghe is restricted, and in order to use Meteor Flight (or any other flight skill), you need to get an Afterglow Pendant in Where Winds Meet.

You can get an Afterglow Pendant by leveling up your Qinghe Exploration rank to 4. To check your progress, open your map, then click on the level indicator below the region name in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Navigate to rank 4, and you’ll see that the Afterglow Pendant is right there along with some materials and Echo Jades for the gacha banner and other vendors.

To level up your Qinghe Exploration level, all you need to do is explore the Qinghe region. Some things you can do to quickly level up your Exploration rank include:

  • Complete side quests
  • Complete Encounters
  • Collect Oddities for Qi Sheng
  • Discover new Boundary Stones

The kicker here is that you won’t be able to use flight skills when you enter a region outside Qinghe unless you get rank 4 exploration in that region too. Once you get to Kaifeng and beyond, you’ll have to unlock the map all over again. Thankfully, the Lightness skills you’ve unlocked will stay unlocked.
