LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog Is Speeding Into 2026 With Silver, Knuckles, and Affordable Sets for Gamers

By newsgame

Collecting LEGO has always been an expensive hobby, but in 2026 things are going to get a whole lot worse. The price of LEGO has been gradually rising every year across most themes, from Star Wars to the humble LEGO City line, and according to recent leaks, that’s only going to continue in the new year. Even LEGO’s BrickHeadz theme won’t be safe from 9–30% price hikes if a recent rumor is to be believed.

But against this disappointing backdrop there shines one bright, hedgehog-shaped light. Two LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets are currently confirmed to release in early 2026 and, against all odds, they’re shockingly good value for money, especially when compared to its fellow gaming-related LEGO themes. These two LEGO Sonic sets are:

  • LEGO Sonic: Speedster Lightning
  • LEGO Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck

An 80-piece LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog polybag is also rumored to release in 2026.

LEGO has a dozen confirmed Marvel sets for 2026, and they have three specific goals to live up to – which they successfully do.

LEGO Sonic: Speedster Lightning 77117

  • $9.99
  • Releases January 1
  • 126 pieces
  • Includes Sonic minifigure

LEGO’s Sonic the Hedgehog Speedster Lightning set is set to release on January 1, and at just $9.99, it’s the cheapest LEGO Sonic set ever made. While there have been some LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog polybags that have retailed for $5, this is the first full LEGO Sonic set to retail for less than $19.99.

For that shockingly reasonable price, fans are getting a full minifigure of the main hedgehog himself, Sonic, and a full-sized brick-built car that’s directly inspired by Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Given its relatively low price tag, its direct connection to the video games, and its inclusion of the series’ primary protagonist, this set is likely to become many fans’ gateway into LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog.

Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck 77118

  • $39.99
  • Releases January 1
  • 378 pieces
  • Includes Silver and Knuckles minifigures

While it isn’t nearly as cheap as the Speedster Lightning set, the LEGO Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck set does carry forward the prior set’s surprisingly good value for money. Also directly inspired by Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, this set delivers well-realized versions of Silver and Knuckles’ in-game vehicles, along with minifigures capturing their likenesses. What adds even more value to this set is that this is the first official LEGO version of Silver the Hedgehog ever released.

Though $39.99 for a 378-piece set with just two minifigures might not sound like the best LEGO deal of all time, it’s a sizable improvement over previous LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets. 2025’s LEGO Knuckles vs. Dr. Eggman Egg Crusher Mech (77005) for instance, offered two minifigures and just 350 pieces for a significantly higher retail price of $44.99.

These LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog 2026 Sets Are Surprisingly Affordable

As any LEGO fan will tell you, prices have been going up every year, and in the last few years that increase has been much more noticeable than ever before. The price of plastic continues to inflate year-on-year, LEGO’s sustainability efforts require a greater piece of the pie, and the cost of IP licenses is presumably not getting any cheaper, all of which results in a higher price for the consumer. LEGO often gets a bad wrap for charging so much for what many still consider to be simple plastic toys, but every so often it goes out of its way to deliver a set or two that are genuinely good value for money.

That’s certainly the case with these two LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets. For decades, LEGO enthusiasts have used a price-per-piece system to determine the value of a LEGO set. Given the high cost of licenses and the inclusion of special minifigures and printed pieces, this price-per-piece valuation isn’t always accurate, but it’s still a solid and simple indication of how a LEGO set’s price stacks up to others in its own theme and beyond.

On a purely price-per-piece basis, the upcoming LEGO Sonic Speedster Lightning is the best value LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set to date, with a PPP value of 7.9 cents. For reference, the LEGO Sonic set with the best PPP value before this set was 2024’s LEGO Shadow the Hedgehog bust, which had a PPP value of 9.7 cents. The Silver’s Car vs. Knuckles’ Monster Truck set has a slightly worse PPP value of 10.6 cents, but that’s still good value compared to the rest of the theme and considering that the set comes with the brand new, currently-exclusive-to-this-set Silver minifigure.

Even when directly compared to LEGO Minecraft – a fellow theme based on video game IP – these 2026 LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets hold great value for money. LEGO Minecraft’s Steve’s Taiga Adventure set is also set to release on January 1, 2026, and will retail for $9.99, but it contains just 79 pieces and, though it comes with two minifigures, it has a PPP value of 12.6 cents, meaning it’s technically worse value for money than the LEGO Sonic Speedster Lightning set.

The same is true when comparing this LEGO Sonic set to LEGO’s Animal Crossing range. 2025’s LEGO Animal Crossing Stargazing with Celeste set retailed for $9.99 but only contained 78 pieces and one minifigure, giving it a PPP value of 12.8 cents. While the exclusivity of the Celeste minifigure certainly makes this Animal Crossing LEGO set a worthwhile investment for collectors, the build itself is a tad generic.

When compared to a theme outside the realm of video games, these LEGO Sonic sets look even more impressive. LEGO’s Star Wars range is widely believed to be one of its most expensive, and the upcoming January 1 LEGO The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Speeder Bike set is great evidence of that. Also retailing for $9.99, this set includes just 58 pieces, giving it a PPP value of 17.2 cents. Though it’s a sleek set that comes with two very popular Star Wars characters, it’s poor value for money on paper, especially when compared to the LEGO Sonic sets that drop on the same day.
