Epic Games Store Officially Reveals Its December 26 Free Game
We Were Here Together has been officially revealed as the Epic Games Store‘s free game for December 26. The latest title from the platform’s ongoing 2025 holiday giveaway, this co-op adventure is free to claim on the Epic Games Store until December 27.
While Epic has so far given away nine games as part of its holiday festivities, the vast majority of them were single-player titles. The only exception was the Epic Games Store’s December 23 freebie, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, though even that title was primarily a single-player experience that merely offered an optional co-op mode.

Epic’s 10th Holiday Season Mystery Game Is Now Free to Claim
15 days into its holiday giveaway, the Epic Games Store has revealed its first truly co-op freebie: We Were Here Together. Originally released in October 2019, this exploration-heavy, first-person puzzle adventure is free to claim until Saturday, December 27, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET. It will then be replaced by another freebie, just as it had replaced the Epic Games Store’s 100% discount on Disco Elysium – The Final Cut. This is the first time ever that We Were Here Together is being given away to EGS users.

A Brief Intro to We Were Here Together, Epic’s December 26 Freebie
Created by Dutch developer Total Mayhem Games, We Were Here Together is the third entry in the We Were Here series of co-op puzzle adventures. Like earlier installments, it tasks two players with solving asymmetrical environmental challenges while navigating hostile locations. Players are physically separated and can only communicate via voice. Compared to its predecessors, We Were Here Together introduces a more tangible narrative and increased puzzle complexity. The 2019 game holds a 67 average rating and a 50% recommendation rate on OpenCritic. Reviewers praised its engaging escape-the-room mechanics and atmospheric snowy environments, though some criticized its UI design and a few particularly obscure puzzles.
We Were Here Together supports full-fledged cross-platform play, allowing players to team up with others no matter their platform of choice: PC (via Steam or EGS), Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, or the Nintendo Switch. While it’s over six years old, the game received a sizable “Legacy Update” this October, introducing performance optimizations, upgraded visuals, and some UI refinements, among other novelties.

There are five more days left in the year, and with them, at least five more titles set to be given away as part of the Epic Games Store’s 2025 holiday promotion. In previous years, the annual giveaway sometimes extended into January, typically while the platform waited for the first Thursday of the new year to resume its regular weekly format. This time, however, 2026 begins on a Thursday, so the December 31 mystery game is expected to officially conclude Epic’s latest holiday giveaway.
