Upcoming Xbox Game Gets Update on Development Progress

By newsgame

Audiences have been begging for an update on Marvel’s Blade since it was first announced in 2023, and players finally have a new official statement from one of the game’s directors, though it may not be what fans had been hoping for. Game director Dinga Bakaba shared an update on the current state of development on Marvel’s Blade, and while many fans are happy to see something new about the game, others have voiced disappointment with what they deem to be a “boilerplate” comment.

Currently in development at Arkane Lyon, the studio behind games like Dishonored and Deathloop, Marvel’s Blade has revealed very little, with the only confirmed gameplay details stating that the title will be a third-person single-player experience set in Paris and featuring the titular vampire superhero Blade. Many were first introduced to Blade with the 1998 live-action film adaptation starring Wesley Snipes. The film trilogy is widely considered to be one of the starting points for the following decades’ massive push for comic book films, with the original Blade movie lauded as one of the best old-school superhero action flicks and an iconic entry within the vampire genre of cinema. As such, it should come as no surprise that gaming audiences are more than ready to sink their teeth into a Blade video game, but players will need to balance their enthusiasm with plenty of patience.

Marvel’s Blade Director Confirms the Game is Still in Active Development

In response to a fan inquiry on social media, Dinga Bakaba stated that Arkane Lyon “is hard at work” on Marvel’s Blade and “out doing themselves” to create a “special game” for fans to love, but he also urged players to “be patient.” Bakaba noted that the team has set “high standards” and is diligently developing Marvel’s Blade with the hope of making something that will meet audience expectations. While some felt the response was too vague and underwhelming, a majority of the post’s replies have thanked Bakaba and Arkane for their work and encouraged the team to take whatever time is needed to craft an incredible gaming experience for Blade fans. It is worth noting that the budget for Marvel’s Blade was leaked back in July and revealed an eye-watering $109 million set aside for the studio to bring its “special game” to life.

Neither a release window nor launch platforms have been announced at the time of writing, so it is difficult to determine where exactly the game may be in its development cycle, but financial documents released in 2024 suggest that Marvel’s Blade only just started full development late that year. As such, it would seem the patience mentioned by Bakaba will certainly be a necessity for interested fans, as it may still be many years before the game launches or until we get a confirmed release date. It is also unknown if 2026 will hold any further updates from Bakaba or Arkane, though many are hopeful that a future Xbox Showcase or Xbox Developer Direct will finally give a fresh look at Marvel’s Blade.

Some pointed out that the update from Bakaba was one of the only new official tidbits to be shared in months, and after over a year of tumultuous layoffs by Microsoft across its gaming and technology divisions, players are happy to hear that Marvel’s Blade has not only not been canceled but is still in active development. There is presently no way of knowing if Marvel’s Blade will be hit with any major setbacks or delays down the road, particularly as the video game industry continues to see major workforce reductions and budget cuts, and many are keeping their fingers crossed that Bakaba and Arkane Lyon will be able to bring Marvel’s Blade to life and meet the “high standards” expected of a vampire superhero game.
