Brand-New Game Has Serious Crazy Taxi Vibes, But PS5 Gamers Have to Wait

By newsgame

Players who enjoyed the Sega arcade racing hit Crazy Taxi have a brand-new hilariously colorful driving game to test out, after Taxi Chaos 2 was shadow dropped onto Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on December 23. Unfortunately, PlayStation 5 fans and Epic Games Store users will have to wait a bit longer, as Taxi Chaos 2 won’t be releasing on those platforms until January 13, but interested players can still get an early look at what to expect from this fast-paced futuristic driving game with the latest trailer.

The original Crazy Taxi has inspired a number of humorous arcade-style driving games over the years, including the beloved Simpsons: Hit and Run, Mile High Taxi, and the first Taxi Chaos. While finding a balance between lighthearted storytelling and addictive gameplay can sometimes be hit or miss, particularly in games where the main character is restricted to outdoor spaces and is so frequently on the move, Taxi Chaos 2 looks to improve upon the early successes of its spiritual predecessors while making adjustments to the flaws of its previous franchise entry.

New Sci-fi RPG Is Like Crazy Taxi Meets Cyberpunk 2077

The Spring 2025 Steam Next Fest includes an early look at a wild new sci-fi RPG that combines the retro hit Crazy Taxi with Cyberpunk 2077.

Taxi Chaos 2 Brings Crazy Taxi Nostalgia with a Modern Tech Twist

Set within a futuristic city under siege by rival taxis controlled by malevolent artificial intelligence, Taxi Chaos 2 sees players taking on the role of human cab driver Vinny, who must deliver passengers to their destinations while swerving, jumping, and soaring through the chaos-filled streets of San Valeda. Constantly shifting, the city of San Valeda transforms with every shift, closing routes and opening new shortcuts, forcing Vinny to think on the fly. Time-of-day shifts also affect the city, changing lighting, visibility, traffic flows, and introducing unpredictable events. Even the passengers Vinny picks up can influence how the city reacts, upping the pressure with each new job. Drawing inspiration from old-school racing games, Taxi Chaos 2 prioritizes tight gameplay, quick pacing, and deep progression to keep players engaged with every mission and encounter as they discover all that San Valeda has to offer.

The ever-changing landscape of San Valeda is not the only challenge for players to face in Taxi Chaos 2. TaxiBot Corp’s fleet of AI cabs will compete with Vinny for each available fare, blocking roads, ramming the player’s car, and unleashing a full assault with armored TaxiTanks. Players will need to strategize accordingly and jump across rooftops, scale terrain, and find hidden paths, with vertical exploration rewarding bold choices and opening up a whole new way to drive a cab. For fans who conquer the chapter-based story mode, Taxi Chaos 2 also offers an unlimited Arcade Mode that lets players stack their cash, upgrade new abilities, and climb the leaderboards with high scores worthy of the best retro arcade cabinets.

For players who enjoy 100% completion, Taxi Chaos 2 has plenty of upgrades to unlock, including special vehicles, cosmetics, and 10 different taxis across three classes. Drift-focused builds will prove useful for agile and sharp movements through dense traffic and obstacles, while a heavy build will prove slower but more powerful for shoving aside any cabs that stand in Vinny’s way. A sportier build will also be a fun option for players who enjoy speed and acceleration above all else. Whether choosing combat abilities like Sonic Blast and Tesla Shock or utility abilities such as Turbo Boost, Hacking Key, and Aqua Wheels, fans of fast-paced driving games have plenty to explore and uncover in San Valeda. Taxi Chaos 2 is available now for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S, with a launch for PS5 and Epic Games Store set for January 13.
