How to Get Griswold’s Opus in Diablo 4

By newsgame

If you’re playing as a Paladin in Diablo 4, and you’re not exactly looking for a weapon that caters to any one of the class’ different playstyle, then Griswold’s Opus might just be what you need. This Unique sword isn’t as fancy as some other 1H weapons, but it’s hard to deny how strong it can make you once you cobble up the right gear set for it.

Like every other Unique item in Diablo 4, getting Griswold’s Opus involves a lot of luck. If you want to spend some time trying to get this weapon, here’s who you need to beat up.

The exact drop location for Griswold’s Opus is a little hard to pin down. In our case, a copy of this sword dropped after defeating Duriel, and since he shares a very similar loot table to Andariel and the Harbinger of Hatred, it’s also possible that this sword can drop from them as well. While we do recommend going for Duriel, it may be a good idea to try beating the other two bosses as well until we can get a better understanding of this weapon’s drop rates.

Of course, Belial can drop Griswold’s Opus too, provided that you beat him after you open the treasure hoard from the three bosses above, or if you choose one of those bosses as the reward target for beating Belial in the Palace of the Deceiver. To claim loot from the latter, you need two Betrayer’s Husks, which you can get by beating Duriel after a lair boss fight.

Griswold’s Opus has a tiny chance to drop from every other possible source of Unique items, such as Helltide chests and Whisper Cache rewards. Purveyors of Curiosities might also give you one after gambling your Obols with them.

Diablo 4 Griswold’s Opus Stats

Unlike other Paladin swords in Diablo 4, Griswold’s Opus doesn’t focus on any one of the class’ Oath/skill types. Instead, it boosts your crit damage every time you deal direct damage to an enemy. This bonus stacks, and when it reaches max stacks, your crits get a 50% chance to deal double damage, and you heal for a flat amount of Life (the effect’s duration refreshes too). The max stack bonus only works on Lucky Critical Hits.

Additionally, Griswold’s Opus has the following curated stats:

  • +Strength
  • +Maximum Life
  • +Ranks to Break the Line
  • +Ranks to Heavyweight

This sword works with pretty much every Paladin build in Diablo 4, provided you have the crit chance to support it. Thankfully, reaching ~70% crit chance with Paladin is extremely easy, even at low levels thanks to the class’ multiple crit-boosting passives as well as the Squire’s Aspect and other similar effects.
