How to Detect Obambo, Gallu, & Dayan in Phasmophobia Winter Update

By newsgame

As part of the 2025 Winter’s Jest Event, 3 new ghosts have been added to Phasmophobia, bringing the total number of ghosts up to 27. These new ghosts are Obambo, Dayan, and Gallu, each exhibiting different behaviors with their own strengths and weaknesses. Naturally, to be able to detect the new ghosts in Phasmophobia, players will have to find the correct evidence.

Phasmophobia: How to Complete Gotta Go Fast Challenge

The Gotta Go Fast Challenge will truly test your mettle in Phasmophobia, so come prepared.

Interestingly, two of these new ghosts have the Spirit Box evidence type, making this piece of equipment more useful than before. The same can be said of EMF Level 5 and Ultraviolet.

Gallu

Evidence

EMF Level 5

Ultraviolet

Spirit Box

  • Strength: Using protective equipment pushes the ghost to become enraged, weakening equipment effects.
  • Weakness: Being enraged exhausts the Gallu, making protective equipment more effective.

The Gallu is a dangerous ghost, as it doesn’t like players using crucifixes and other defensive equipment. Dropping these in the ghost room may cause the Gallu to hunt, and with them being less effective, the crucifix might not stop the Gallu. They can also speed the Gallu up.

However, if players survive long enough, they may notice that the Gallu becomes tired and slow after a while, which can be a giveaway to its identity. If it steps in salt or passes over a crucifix while hunting at this slow speed and then regains its energy and speed, it is almost certainly a Gallu.

Obambo

Evidence

  • Strength: While aggressive, the Obambo is quicker to start hunting.
  • Weakness: While calm, the Obambo is slower to start hunting and easier to track.

The new Obambo ghost in Phasmophobia switches between two states every two minutes. When calm, it will only hunt when a player dips beneath 10% sanity and will travel fairly slowly at 1.45 m/s. However, in its aggressive state, it has a higher hunt threshold of 65% sanity and will increase its speed to 1.96 m/s, although these aggressive hunts won’t last as long, thankfully.

Interestingly, it can switch states mid-hunt, which can be dangerous or a relief, but also a possible giveaway for identifying the ghost as an Obambo. Outside of hunting, the Obambo will also be more active in its room when aggressive, but then almost unnoticeable when calm. Watch out for these behavioral changes and have patience with evidence, as it’s unlikely to leave much when calm.

Hide and Seek Extreme is one of the more relentless challenges in Phasmophobia, so here’s how to guarantee success.

Dayan

Phasmophobia - Ghost Entry - Dayan

Evidence

EMF Level 5

Ghost Orb

Spirit Box

  • Strength: The Dayan gains strength to protect herself if people ‘dance’ too close to her.
  • Weakness: The Dayan loses strength if people close to her stand still.

The Dayan is one of the weaker ghosts, as it doesn’t seem too aggressive, and will massively slow down if players stand still. If you or a teammate moves while a ghost is hunting within 10m, and it immediately speeds up, it is likely a Dayan. As its movement speed almost doubles, it should be easy to notice. If it speeds up randomly without you moving, it could instead be an Obambo or Gallu switching states.

Another way to help identify whether a ghost is or is not a Dayan is its gender. Dayans and Banshees can only have female names and models as of the last update. If you spot a male ghost, it’s not a Dayan.
