How One Choice in Dispatch Episode 7 Ruined My Blonde Blazer Playthrough

By newsgame

This article contains spoilers for Dispatch up through Episode 8.

I have now finished my first full playthrough of Dispatch, and while the ending I got was epic and emotional, I made one mistake in Episode 7 that cost me everything I had built up to that point. After just the first episode of Dispatch, I knew that Blonde Blazer was who I wanted Robert to end up with, simply because I liked how her quirky, dorky self aligned with the kind of person my version of Robert was becoming. Even after getting to know Invisigal and harboring an intense amount of compassion for her, I still saw Blonde Blazer as the optimal choice for my Robert, and I ensured every choice I made with her leading up to Episode 7 was peak rom-com.

Despite that confidence, I refused to kiss Blonde Blazer at the beginning of the game because I wanted things between her and Robert to grow over time, and even with the warning that she would remember that choice, I had high hopes that it wouldn’t really affect the outcome. Sure enough, it didn’t, and I was given more opportunities to foster Robert’s romantic relationship with Blazer in the episodes that followed. But then came Episode 7 — one of the shortest episodes of Dispatch, and yet it threw one of the biggest curveballs at me that I was not prepared for.

One Moment of Hesitation in Dispatch Episode 7 Cost Me Everything With Blonde Blazer

Dispatch Episode 7 Robert Invisigal kiss

My ultimate goal with my Dispatch playthrough was to make Robert the perfect hero. I was kind and inspiring to Z-Team as much as the game allowed me to be, and no matter how much Invisigal herself or others told me that she wasn’t worth keeping around, I did everything in my power to make sure she stayed. I persistently believed in her, and I pushed her to be the best version of herself that she could be. That’s what made the Dispatch Episode 7 locker room scene such a difficult choice for me.

See, I not only wanted to redeem Invisigal and convince her to stick around, but I wanted to do all of that while somehow making Blonde Blazer Robert’s only romantic interest. In order to accomplish that, though, I would also need to walk the incredibly thin tight rope of being as affirming as possible to Invisigal without crossing any lines — and Dispatch made those choices incredibly difficult at times.

In Episode 7, Z-Team huddles up in the conference room to discuss whether Invisigal should be let go after she recklessly disobeyed direct orders and put Chase in danger. Well, Visi overhears the entire conversation and then heads to the locker room to pack up her stuff, with Robert joining her shortly after. She then confesses to him that she is the one responsible for destroying his Mecha Man suit, and while I chose to have Robert forgive her, I wasn’t at all prepared for what happened next. After she leaves, turning herself invisible on the way out, Robert is then pushed up against the lockers and his lips pucker before Visi is revealed, kissing him.

During this already intense moment, Dispatch offered me the choice to either lean into the kiss or lean out. The choice timer was quickly running out, and I began weighing each option with the outcomes they might produce. On the one hand, I know leaning out would secure Robert’s relationship with Blonde Blazer, but it would also potentially push Visi so far away that she would choose to embrace her villainhood and I would lose all the progress I had made with her up to that point. On the other hand, I could lean into the kiss and more likely ensure that she stayed with the team, but also presumably put a dent in Robert’s relationship with Blazer.

Rather than make a choice, I hesitated for too long, wrestling with the two options until the timer eventually ran out, and the game made the decision for me: lean in. At that point, I was at the mercy of Dispatch‘s story, but my hopes were that Robert and Blazer would eventually have a conversation about the kiss, and that I’d get the chance to explain what happened. Alas, my hopes were vastly unrealistic, because by the time the conversation came at the end of Episode 8 of Dispatch, Robert and Invisigal’s romance was locked in, leaving his relationship with Blazer strictly professional.

Dispatch Episode 8 choice results

What’s worse is that I am now a part of a very exclusive club in Dispatch that I’m really not proud of at all. Only 6% of players “fell” for both Blonde Blazer and Invisigal, though I wouldn’t necessarily consider that true of myself. Mine was an issue of time working against me and the thought of undoing the amazing work I had accomplished with Invisigal. For me, it was never about Robert falling for both of them, but about doing what I felt was best for Z-Team while simultaneously attempting to have Robert end up with Blonde Blazer. Thankfully, Dispatch‘s scene selection makes it easy for me to go back and fix my mistake.
