From how to get it, to Stats, best EVs, nature, and moveset: Find everything about Primal Groudon right here! This also includes the Omega Old-Fashioned Donut Recipe to challenge Rogue Mega Groudon and claim the Red Orb.

Where To Find Groudon in Pokemon Legends Z-A Mega Dimension DLC

Groudonis a post-game challenge in Pokemon Legends Z-A that becomes available once players complete the Mega Dimension DLC and defeat Darkrai. Afterwards, players will need to fill out yet another Hyperspace Lumiose Survey, this time, with 70000 points.

Players can do so by engaging the Hyperspace Wild Zone and Battle Zone Distortions all over the map, or by participating in Rogue Mega Battle Rematches against Rogue Mega Pokemon elevated to level 200. These battles are quite intense, but yield 10,000 Survey Points each.

Once players have reached that amount, they’ll be called by Corbeau, this time, to meet him at the Cafe Noveau. He will discuss with Grisham the delivery of Hoenian Salt, a new ingredient that players need to deliver to Ansha to craft two new Donuts: Omega Old-Fashioned Donut and Alpha Old-Fashioned Donut. The first is the one needed to challenge Groudon, so let’s break the recipe down to make things easier.

Now that players have the Hoenian Salts, they should take them back to Ansha at Hotel Z. Once there, after a brief Cutscene, they will be able to talk to Hoopa’s trainer and select to work on the Alpha or Omega Donut recipes.

Select the Omega Recipe, and pick up the following berries in this order to craft it:

  • 1 Hyper Rindo Berry
  • 2 Hyper Coba Berries
  • 1 Hyper Tanga Berry
  • 1 Hyper Kasib Berry
  • 2 Hyper Haban Berry
  • 1 Hyper Colbur Berry

The precise flavor mix is 260 points in sweet, 160 points in spicy, 160 points in sour, 20 points in bitter, and 260 points in fresh. Players can try various recipes of their own if they wish. But this is the optimal way to do it fast.

With the Omega Old-Fashioned Donut crafted, players need to direct their attention towards Wild Zone 6 where a 5-Star Distortion has formed. That’s where players need to go next.

How to Beat Primal Groudon in Pokemon Legends Z-A – Mega Dimension

The Battle against Groudon happens in two phases: First, players will need to take down a level 200 Groudon that uses a lot of extremely powerful Ground-type moves empowered by Rogue Mega Evolution. The second phase, is against Primal Groudon (also level 200). Here’s a breakdown of both phases:

  1. Groudon: A Ground-type Legendary, uses lots of Physical Type moves from the Ground-type, so bring a Water-type Pokemon to the fight.
    Feraligatr
with Aqua Jet and Liquidation does the trick. Watch out for its charge attack, cancel it fast, or it will shower ground blasts all around the arena.
  2. Primal Groudon: Groudon recovers all its HP and becomes a Ground/Fire-type, and that means a x4 Weakness to Water-type moves. Players can Mega Evolve Feraligatr to empower its moves, or if they have Mega Tatsugiri, they can spam Waterfall all the time and remain as far away as possible. Primal Groudon unleashes a wide area destruction attack, which explodes the arena floor section by section (following a triangle pattern). Dodge right before the explosion to negate damage to the Trainer.

For the first phase, it is convenient that players avoid approaching too much, as it will use Fire Blast at point-blank range and cause lots of damage.

For the second phase, it is the opposite: Primal Groudon will use Precipice Blades on ranged attackers, and once it charges energy, it will unleash a devastating attack that will cover the entire arena (see Phase 2, Primal Groudon).

Due to its enormous body, Groudon and Primal Groudon have a particular issue when releasing Mega Orbs and Hyperspace Orbs. Players might find it a bit difficult to collect these when they drop, especially near Groudon’s body, as its collision unit will cover the drop area. Wait until it moves a bit, or aggro it around to collect the Orbs and increase the Mega Energy Bar and Recover Hyperspace Time (Calories).

Once players have defeated this beast, they will be able to capture Groudon, and get the Red Orb needed to cause its Primal Regression. It works similarly to Mega Evolution: Players need to gather Mega Energy, then press the right stick (R) to cause Groudon to evolve (or devolve?) into its Primal Form.

How to Beat Primal Groudon in Pokemon Legends Z-A - Mega Dimension (3)

Primal Groudon is one of the five strongest Pokemon players can get in Legends Z-A. It has a BST of 770 (which is nuts) and it holds one of the most powerful Physical Attack values in the entire Pokemon game universe (180). Its only flaw is its Speed, but that’s not a problem when you are a literal walking disaster.

Nothing can escape the reach of its attacks, and if they get close enough to scuffle in a 1v1 melee, they’re doomed: Primal Groudon has the Bulk, the Defense, and all the power to spare, thanks to its also high Special Attack (150). So no matter where they hide, or what they do, Primal Groudon is going to get them one way or the other.

It’s Special Def. is on the lower point (90) but that doesn’t matter since this big chunk of molten fury can obliterate anything with Precipice Blades, Heat Crash, Earthquake, and Fissure, which has become a nasty move that does a whopping 250 damage, though it takes long time to be executed and has a 20-second cooldown. No matter, nothing can survive a STAB Fissure, even less when they’re vulnerable to Ground.

In general terms, Groudon in its regular shape is a force to be reckoned with. At 630 BST is one of the strongest Legendary Pokemon, and also able to use the two strongest Ground-type and Fire-type moves.

Players can also try teaching it Scorching Sands, as it’s a move that is causing lots of hurt in PvP. Needless to say, it’s a tradeoff move, since it takes a bit of time to execute and leaves Groudon vulnerable. But, it causes Burning, and this debuff is back in top form in Pokemon Legends Z-A, so it’s worth a shot.
