Who is Playing Lara Croft in the New Tomb Raider Games Revealed

By newsgame

Any time a new Tomb Raider game is revealed, there’s guaranteed to be some intense scrutiny around its version of Lara Croft, with her character design and voice being two areas longtime fans hone in on. Fortunately, her new look in the two upcoming games — especially Legacy of Atlantis — seems to be a hit, and it’s easy to imagine new Tomb Raider actor Alix Wilton Regan being well received, too.

To be fair, she’s going to have a high bar to cross, as Lara has had numerous video game voices in the past. These include original voice Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbons from the first two sequels, and Jonell Elliot from the second trio of games. Then there’s Keeley Hawes, who many view as the quintessential voice of Lara Croft, as she nailed the adventurer’s trademark sassiness in Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld. Lara’s most recent video game voice actor is Camila Luddington, who portrayed the young version of Lara seen in the Survivor trilogy, and she’s officially passed the torch to Alix Wilton Regan via a heartfelt Instagram post.

For those unfamiliar with Alix Wilton Regan, one of her most recent video game roles saw her playing Alt Cunningham in Cyberpunk 2077. It takes a lot to stand out in CD Projekt Red’s futuristic RPG, as big-name actors like Idris Elba and Keanu Reeves regularly take the spotlight. Still, Wilton Regan managed to fill Alt Cunningham with life and make her a proper showstealer, making every second of screentime count. While Lara Croft isn’t quite as powerful as Alt, and is a very different character in general, taking a look at Alix Wilton Regan’s career reveals that she has plenty of range.

Cyberpunk 2077 Isn’t the Only Game The New Lara Croft Actor Appeared In

Alix Wilton Regan has also played the following video game characters over the years:

  • Samantha Traynor — Mass Effect 3
  • The Inquisitor — Dragon Age: Inquisition and Veilguard
  • Aya — Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Augusta — Wuthering Waves
  • Lea — Lies of P

Based on this handful of roles, it’s clear that Wilton Regan is a phenomenal choice for a mature Lara Croft that has been through dozens of adventures. Mass Effect’s Samantha Traynor was a niche but welcome romance option, with this character showing that whenever the Lara Croft of Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst needs to let her guard down, Wilton Regan will have the softness to nail those scenes. Her Dragon Age role reflects her ability to handle a character that leads instead of follows, her time as the Assassin Aya practically guarantees the “new” Lara will nail the cool factor, and Lies of P’s Lea shining so brightly in Overture can be partially contributed to the woman who voiced her.

All of this experience will hopefully culminate in a version of Lara Croft that builds off what came before, honoring the legacy of every actor from Hawes to Luddington. Considering that the Lara in Legacy of Atlantis — a reimagining of the original Tomb Raider — will have endured the entire Survivor Trilogy, she’ll need to feel somewhat similar to that iteration. Then, the Catalyst version of Lara will need to have all of that experience plus that of the Legend Trilogy, as the 2027 game is finally picking up the threads of that storyline and continuing from where those games left off. Wilton Regan essentially has to play two levels of “unified” Lara, with Catalyst taking things further than ever by essentially featuring the ultimate Lara Croft. Wilton Regan certainly seems excited to take on this challenge, though, as she released a statement calling this the “absolute highlight” of her career.

With Throne of Atlantis coming at some point in 2026, it likely won’t be long before more clips are shared and fans get to hear more dialogue from Alix Wilton Regan’s Lara. For now, though, they’ll just have to keep watching the Game Awards trailers for the two upcoming Tomb Raider games.
