2 New Tomb Raider Games Revealed
Crystal Dynamics has used The Game Awards 2025 to officially reveal Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst. The latter is a brand-new series entry, while Legacy of Atlantis‘ TGA 2025 trailer introduces it as yet another remake of Lara Croft’s first adventure.
During the April 2022 State of Unreal event, Crystal Dynamics confirmed it was working on a new Tomb Raider game using Unreal Engine 5. Amazon Games was announced as the title’s publisher in December of the same year. Aside from a single piece of concept art, there has been no new information about the project over the following three years.

Despite the recent wave of layoffs, Amazon shares an encouraging update on its upcoming Tomb Raider game project with Crystal Dynamics.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst Officially Revealed
The 2025 edition of The Game Awards has now yielded not one but two Tomb Raider game announcements: Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Catalyst is a brand-new entry in the series, previously referred to by fans as Tomb Raider 12. As its name suggests, Legacy of Atlantis is another remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider, a globe-trotting adventure in which Lara searches for a powerful artifact called the Scion of Atlantis.
Everything Confirmed About Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
The TGA 2025 trailer for Legacy of Atlantis confirms Lara’s new look that Crystal Dynamics first teased in early 2024 via a Tomb Raider glyph puzzle posted on its website. The iconic heroine is depicted wearing a teal shirt and sporting a single long braid—reminiscent of her original design—paired with a new face model. At one point, Lara is seen dual-wielding handguns resembling the Browning Hi-Power models that inspired her 1996 arsenal. The trailer also indicates Legacy of Atlantis will not be a 1:1 remake, as evidenced by the inclusion of a grapple hook, absent from the original but introduced in the 2007 remake Tomb Raider: Anniversary. A brief shot of a towering dinosaur further appears to tease the iconic T-Rex encounter from the midpoint of the first game.
Legacy of Atlantis Is the 5th Version of Tomb Raider 1
Legacy of Atlantis will mark the fifth major version of the inaugural Tomb Raider game. The iconic 1996 action-adventure was first re-released in 1998 as Tomb Raider Gold, also known as Tomb Raider: Unfinished Business, which included a standalone expansion with four new levels across two bonus chapters. The game was later reimagined in 2007 with Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider: Anniversary remake. Its fourth iteration arrived in February 2024 as part of Aspyr’s well-received Tomb Raider 1–3 Remastered collection.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It was announced with a 2026 release window. With 2026 just weeks away, a launch in the second half of the year appears more likely than in the first.
Everything Confirmed About Tomb Raider: Catalyst
Tomb Raider: Catalyst promises to continue Lara’s adventures with a new story “set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm” that saw some not-too-friendly guardians spring to life, along with a slew of ancient secrets. Time travel is implied to be a central plot element, though it remains unclear to what extent, if any, it will influence gameplay. Lara will clash with “the world’s most notorious treasure hunters” over the course of Tomb Raider: Catalyst. While the game’s synopsis suggests it may not be as geographically diverse as Legacy of Atlantis, it states that the upcoming title will span multiple locations across Northern India. Tomb Raider: Catalyst is planned to release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Steam is currently its only confirmed PC storefront. The game is targeting a 2027 launch.
Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst are not the only Tomb Raider projects currently in development, as Amazon has been producing a live-action TV show based on Lara Croft’s adventures for the last several years. However, the adaptation is reportedly still far from completion, with a March 2025 report indicating that even the screenplay had yet to be finalized at the time.
