Old Republic Game Was Just Announced, and It’s Certainly Welcomed
The Game Awards took fans to a Galaxy Far, Far Away with the reveal of a brand new game set in the Old Republic, titled Fate of the Old Republic. The Game Awards only gave fans a brief teaser, but it’s more than enough.
Of course, this is a massive surprise (and a welcome one). Heading into the event, plenty of rumors and leaks swirled around the showcase of a Star Wars game at The Game Awards. Most rumors pointed to the long-awaited KOTOR remake, but there was plenty of speculation that it could be Star Wars Jedi 3, a brand-new Old Republic Game, or something else entirely. The wait for this confirmation wasn’t too long, luckily. The safe bets were on the remake, given the timeframe, but the confirmation of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is exciting.
- New Old Republic Game Titled Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic (FOTOR)
- Directed by Casey Hudson (new studio – Arcanaut Studios)
- No gameplay or release news
The fate of the galaxy is in your hands in a narrative-driven action RPG where you step into the role of a Force user on a journey through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth. Blending innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic immerses you in an unforgettable experience where every decision deepens your journey toward light or darkness.
Casey Hudson Returns to Star Wars
Not only was the teaser tantalizing, but Keighley confirmed that the director of the OG Knights of the Old Republic, as well as the Mass Effect series, Casey Hudson was working on the game. Unfortunately, other details were sparse. It can be assumed from the title that it involves the end of the era, and given the timeline of Star Wars‘ Old Republic, High Republic, and modern eras, it is obviously setting thousands of years before the original trilogy.
What’s more, it’s often a good time to pair a brand new game when pursuing remakes. Given that news on the KOTOR remake has been dead in the water for some time, hopefully this gains traction. Instead of waiting years, it would be great if fans could learn more in the coming weeks and months, but for the time being, it’s safe to assume it’s not a 2026 release.
As fans know, the Knights of the Old Republic remake was first announced in September 2021 for PC and PS5. Developer Aspyr went quiet not long after, with fans hearing reports that development was troubled. The KOTOR Remake‘s development hell was all but officially confirmed when Saber Interactive took over development in August 2022. Now, at the very least, it is getting to breathe new life.
