Battlefield 6 Makes Big Changes to Wicked Grin Skin
It seems as if Battlefield 6‘s developers have changed the game’s controversial Wicked Grin skin once again, as the cosmetic is now missing the signature toothy smile that likely inspired its name in the first place. Battlefield 6 is full of cosmetics for players to enjoy, most of which feature neutral colors, camouflage, and tactical gear that one might expect to see in real life. However, as the developers continue to release more and more skins, the push to create visually distinct outfits while still adhering to the overall grounded tone of the game might prove to be a major challenge.
Cosmetics have proven to be a point of controversy in many games, as developers are constantly trying to create skins that appeal to a wide audience. Games like Fortnite regularly add cosmetics that are bright, flashy, and (in the eyes of many) fun, which is in keeping with the title’s cartoonish art style. It’s also not uncommon to see crossovers with major franchises or celebrities, which can lead to people like John Cena or Snoop Dogg coming to Fortnite. It’s worth noting that Call of Duty has also embraced this trend, as players can regularly see Seth Rogan and Nicki Minaj running around in the game. These crossovers tend to happen because the cosmetics themselves sell fairly well, which helps sustain these massive live-service titles financially. While this works for many games in the genre, a large portion of Battlefield 6‘s community has asked the developers to focus on the game’s grounded visuals when designing cosmetics. Unfortunately, the push-and-pull nature of players who want flashy cosmetics and those who don’t have led to a fair amount of controversy in Battlefield 6.
Battlefield 6 Drops a Massive December Update
Battlefield 6 developer DICE releases a massive new update for its latest entry in the series, bringing new content and tons of changes.
Battlefield 6’s Wicked Grin Skin Loses Its Smile
As reported by IGN, it seems as if the Wicked Grin skin in Battlefield 6 has received yet another change, which has removed the toothy grin from the outfit’s neck gaiter. The rest of the outfit seems to be fairly similar, though a bright yellow band was added to the character’s arm. The story behind the Wicked Grin skin began all the way back in October when EA gave players a first look at some of Battlefield 6‘s Season 1 cosmetics. Many players were quick to share their dissatisfaction with the original design of the Wicked Grin skin, which featured a bright blue color palette and a toothy white smile. For many, the skin’s bright colors broke the immersion of Battlefield 6‘s toned-down aesthetic, which tends to focus on grounded visuals that emphasize the kind of camouflage one might see actual soldiers wear.
Shortly after the cosmetic was revealed, Battlefield 6‘s Wicked Grin skin disappeared from the game, leading many to wonder if it had been removed entirely. When it returned, it did so with darker, more muted colors, though it still had its signature smile. Now, the skin has been changed once again and the “grin” part of Wicked Grin is nowhere to be seen. Overall, it seems as if many players are happy with the change. While some people didn’t feel the skin had crossed any boundaries, others felt it was the beginning of a slippery slope, as it may lead to even brighter and more outlandish designs in the future. Some gamers feel that the developers’ decision to walk back Wicked Grin’s flashy elements is a positive sign of things to come for Battlefield 6.
While many gamers seem to be praising the changes to Wicked Grin, some have noticed a major problem with Battlefield 6‘s latest update. After the release of patch 1.1.3.0 on December 9, a lot of gamers took to social media to complain about a stuttering issue. In some cases, people even declared that the game had become “unplayable” to them after the most recent patch. Fortunately, the developers have acknowledged the issue and said they are investigating the cause. Despite a few bumps in the road here and there, many fans are feeling optimistic about the future of Battlefield 6.
