God of War TV Series Leaks Possible Baldur and Thor Actors
Spoilers ahead for God of War and God of War Ragnarok.
Though God of War fans are still waiting with bated breath to find out who will be playing Kratos and his son, Atreus, they may now know who will be playing some of his adversaries. According to insider Daniel Richtman, known for sharing scoops on the MCU, DCU, and other areas of nerd culture, God of War’s Baldur and Thor may be played by Max Parker and Olafur Darri Olafsson.
Max Parker has appeared in numerous television shows, including Doctor Who and Boots, as well as films like Vampire Academy. Boots was the breakout role for the 33-year-old actor, who certainly has the right vibe for Baldur. Facially, there are some clear similarities between the Englishman and Santa Monica’s interpretation of Odin’s unfeeling son, and he’s in excellent physical shape — something that should help guarantee that his inevitable battle with Kratos comes close to the magical boss encounter from the opening hours of God of War 2018.
As for Thor’s rumored actor, Olafur Darri Olafsson shined in the critically acclaimed series Severance, and he’s also won awards for his roles in The Deep and The Minister. The 52-year-old boasts impressive facial hair like Thor Odinson, with the reddish shade also matching the game’s take on the Mjolnir-wielding god. He’s also 6-foot-2 with a similar build to the in-game Thor, which, combined with his acting pedigree, essentially guarantees that he’s a perfect pick for the character.
Official Info on Amazon’s God of War Could Be Coming Sooner Rather Than Later
Obviously, this leak should be taken with a grain of salt, as unofficial info could always turn out to be false. Additionally, even if it is true, Richtman stated that the actors are only “in talks” for these roles as of now, meaning there’s a chance a deal might not be reached, or that different actors could be selected for the characters. Still, the response to these names has been unanimously positive on social media platforms like Reddit, with users specifically citing Olafsson’s voice as another trait that makes him perfect for Thor. As for when fans can expect to hear some official news on God of War’s Amazon adaptation, early 2026 is a safe bet given that production is set to begin in March of next year.
Given that there will likely be a fair bit of effects work for a God of War television series, a 2027 release date is likely for the first season of the show.
What’s particularly interesting about this leak is that Thor is seemingly being cast for the first season of the show despite only being an end credits cameo in God of War 2018. This suggests that he could have a larger role in the show, with episodes potentially exploring the Aesir instead of having their stories unfold in the background. Fans may get to see Thor interact with his brother Baldur and his two sons, something that didn’t happen in the games, and there’s even a chance that his battle with Kratos’ wife Faye could be depicted on-screen. While there’s a two-season order for God of War on Amazon, it’s unclear if both those seasons will be used to tell the 2018 game’s story or if Season 2 will focus on Ragnarok — though many would surely hope that the sequel would get at least two seasons so that it’s properly covered and isn’t rushed.
While series purists may have concerns about the God of War show potentially spending too much time on side characters and taking focus away from Kratos and Atreus, there are upsides to the idea. For now, fans will have to wait patiently to find out if this exciting casting leak proves true, and if Amazon can strike gold with another game adaptation just as it did with its Fallout series.
