5 New PS5 Games Are Releasing on December 8

By newsgame

PlayStation 5 gamers should note that this coming Monday, December 8 is going to be an unusually busy day for the platform, as five new games are all launching at the same time. Sony’s PlayStation 5 is already one of the most successful video game consoles of all time, and by the time it’s all said and done, it may even potentially pass the PS4’s sales numbers. Sony has been able to sell so many PS5 consoles because nearly every major video game release is readily available on the system.

New PS5 games are released regularly every month, ranging from big-budget exclusive games to blockbuster third-party titles and a seemingly endless supply of indies. While new PS5 games drop nearly every week, most of the time the games are fairly spread out so that there isn’t a bunch dropping all at once. An exception to that rule is this coming Monday, December 8, which will see five new PS5 games release on the exact same day. How this might impact their sales is unclear, but it is definitely an interesting lineup of games releasing on December 8.

All Big Upcoming PS5 Games

From JRPGs to platform, racing, and open-world titles, here are all the big new PS5 games releasing in 2025 and later.

That day, PS5 gamers can look forward to the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PS5 port, demonic skateboarding game Skate Story, and not one, not two, but three Yakuza ports. Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut, which was formerly a Switch 2 exclusive, is coming to the PS5 on December 8, and it will be joined by native PS5 ports of Yakuza Kiwami, and Kiwami 2, the well-received remakes of the first two Yakuza/Like a Dragon games from the PS2 era. Different versions of the Yakuza games are already playable on PS5 thanks to backward compatibility, but it’s still nice that they are getting native releases on the platform.

New PS5 Games Releasing on December 8

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
  • Skate Story
  • Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut
  • Yakuza Kiwami
  • Yakuza Kiwami 2

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is one of the more notable PS5 games releasing on December 8, as it will actually be published by Xbox Game Studios. For those unfamiliar with the game, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is exactly as its name suggests — an updated flight simulator where players fly planes and other aircraft around the world. It didn’t earn quite the same level of praise as its immediate predecessor, but it’s still a massive simulation experience for aviation enthusiasts to check out. It also marks yet another Xbox game that has jumped ship to PS5, which is always interesting to see.

Skate Story, meanwhile, may very well be one of the most-played out of all the new PS5 games coming on December 8. That’s because Skate Story is a day one PS Plus Extra game, meaning subscribers to that tier of the service will be able to play through it in its entirety without paying anything beyond what they already do for their subscription.

Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 will feature graphics and performance boosts on PS5, while Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut will have all that and more. Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut features new cutscenes, an online multiplayer mode called Red Light Raid, and other content that wasn’t available in the original version of the game. It’s a bit more substantial and could be enough to convince fans that have already played through Yakuza 0 to revisit it on PS5.

What makes December 8 even more unusual when it comes to the new PS5 games dropping that day is the fact that it’s a Monday. Most of the time, new video game releases drop on Tuesdays and Fridays, and sometimes Thursdays. It’s definitely unusual that all these games are all dropping on a Monday, but it should make for a more exciting Monday than PS5 gamers are used to.
