Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s DLC features 19 new Mega Evolutions, according to leaks and datamining, and six of them have been revealed so far. These were all in the list of leaked new Megas, meaning that the remaining ones are most likely to be correct. Yet, there will also be returning Mega Evolutions from the Gen 6 era that weren’t in the base game, so fans will have plenty of great and powerful picks for their teams. For those who enjoy ranked battles in the game, these 8 Pokemon will be some of the best in the entire game when the DLC drops.
This list doesn’t include Legendary or Mythical Pokemon, as they are notoriously strong and may not be available immediately.
It’s Official: Say Hello to Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s New Mega Darkrai and Heatran
Pokemon Legends: Z-A has 26 confirmed new Mega Evolutions, but dataminers have already found a new Mega for both Darkrai and Heatran.

8 – Glimmora
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Glimmora is an outstanding example of great design, both in terms of themes and gameplay mechanics. While it’s a Pokemon that’s weak to Ground 4x, which is not great in Pokemon Legends: Z-A due to Garchomp, Zygarde, and Excadrill being such prevalent meta picks, it does have a fantastic type combo for dealing with other critters. It’s a great counter for Fairy, Fire, Grass, Ice, Flying, and Bug, and that’s just with STAB moves. It’s a rather bulky Pokemon, and on top of that, it also has a very high base Special Attack. Finally, Glimmora is getting a Mega Evolution in the DLC.
7
7 – Golurk
While some fans may be surprised, Golurk has decent stats, with high Attack and average HP and defenses. This is a powerful Pokemon in a game where Speed is not as relevant, and since it’s Ground-type, it does have access to some powerful STAB moves like Earthquake. Its Ghost-type also helps, as it makes it supereffective against meta picks like Mewtwo in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. If that wasn’t enough, Golurk is also getting a Mega Evolution in the Mega Dimension DLC, according to leaks.
6
6 – Annihilape
Annihilape is Primeape’s evolution introduced in Gen 9 games, and it has very good BST (base stat total) at 535, of which it only has 50 points in Special Attack, meaning it’s incredibly optimized. Annihilape is a fantastic attacker, and it only has 4 weaknesses vs. 3 resistances and 2 immunities, making it a great candidate for the DLC playthrough and ranked battles alike. With a Fighting/Ghost type combination, it has access to some powerful STAB moves that can counter popular critters like Excadrill, Metagross, Delphox, Chandelure, Mega Gyarados, and more.
5
5 – Sceptile
Sceptile is already a rather popular Pokemon in the series, as it’s one of the three Hoenn starters. Since it’s a Grass-type, it takes reduced damage from Electric and Ground, making it a pretty good switch in the current meta when one of those moves is about to hit you. More importantly, it gets access to a Mega Evolution, and Mega Sceptile becomes Grass/Dragon. This allows it to counter Garchomp and Zygarde with ease, but do keep an eye out for pesky attackers with Ice moves, like Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Vaporeon and Glaceon, as Mega Sceptile is 4x weak to Ice.
4
4 – Golisopod
Although Golisopod may seem like a strange choice, it’s a very bulky Pokemon with great defenses. Its Water/Bug combination means it has only three weaknesses, with them being Flying, Electric, and Rock, but it packs five resistances. Since Water is such a good offensive type, countering most of the meta types in the game, and Bug can deal some incredible STAB damage to Psychic and Dark types, Golisopod may see quite a lot of usage. It’s also among the 19 new Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s DLC, according to the leaks.
3
3 – Overqwil
A returning Pokemon from Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Overqwil is going to be a very strong contender for the top meta spots. This is because it’s a Dark/Poison Pokemon, which means it’s weak to Ground, but it resists Grass, Poison, Ghost, and Dark, and it’s immune to Psychic. This is an amazing counter for both Mewtwo and Xerneas in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and considering that it has very high stats, it could be fantastic with held items like Expert Belt or Life Orb as an attacker.
2
2 – Baxcalibur
Mega Baxcalibur in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is most likely going to be one of the strongest Pokemon in the entire format, if not the series as a whole. This is because it has 600 BST, like all other pseudo-Legendary Pokemon, but it has a relatively low Special Attack and Speed, which means that its stats are already quite optimized. Unless the Mega Evolution changes it to a mixed attacker, which is very unlikely, it may end up having the highest Attack stat in the game or even across all Pokemon games. Dragon/Ice is also an amazing type combination offensively, and while this makes it weak to Metagross, Xerneas, and other Dragon-types, it also has STAB Ice moves at its disposal.
1
1 – Porygon2
Perhaps the most broken Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A when the Mega Dimension DLC drops is going to be Porygon2, to little surprise from those who have played VGC over the years or at least followed it. While you can evolve Porygon2 into Porygon-Z, this is mostly a downgrade, as the former has a very respectable BST of 515, but it can also hold Eviolite. Porygon2 + Eviolite is a tried and true combo in the series, to the point that it has won many tournaments, even recently, in Gen 9. Porygon2 has access to a lot of powerful special moves, and since it’s a Normal-type, it’s only weak to Fighting but immune to Ghost. The icing on the cake is that Hyper Beam is actually a viable move in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Porygon2 can fire it off with a STAB damage increase, making it potentially one-shot most critters in the game.
