How to Unlock Nightreign DLC Characters (Undertaker + Scholar)

By newsgame

With the addition of the Elden Ring Nightreign DLC, Forsaken Hallows, comes two new characters, or Nightfarers. Both of these characters have an entirely different playstyle, meaning that there is a chance players might not like one character or the other. Luckily, both of these characters can be unlocked quite easily, but there are a few steps players will have to complete first. Even though it is obvious, unlocking these characters requires access to the Forsaken Hollows DLC, which is available for $15 on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox Game Store.

How To Get & Use Sovereign Sigils In Elden Ring Nightreign

To get Sovereign Sigils, Nightreign players must defeat one of the toughest Nightlord boss fights in the game.

How to Unlock Scholar and Undertaker in Elden Ring Nightreign

After opening Elden Ring Nightreign for the DLC, and given that you have already played through the game and defeated at least the first Nightlord, Tricephalos, you will find the Iron Menial. It will tell you that the Small Jar Merchant has a message. Go left of the Iron Menial and to the location inside the Roundtable Hold where the Small Jar Merchant is, and talk to it. It will point at the door, and as you open it, a fight will commence with the Dredgelord. The Scholar and the Undertaker will already be fighting it, but it won’t take long for them to be defeated.

Now, defeating the boss is not necessary to progress this section, and there is neither any achievement nor reward like a Relic waiting for you if you do so. After the fight is over, you will see a small cutscene, and can then make your way inside the room where both the Scholar and the Undertaker can be found.

Talk to both of them one at a time, and this unlocks both of these characters to use to fight against the new Nightlords. A new Expedition will appear, Balancers, and a Shifting Earth Event will start as well: “The Great Hallow”. With the characters unlocked, this is a great opportunity to test them out in the Sparring Grounds and get a feel of the Nightfarer before you take on an Expedition. Both characters have unique kits and powerful abilities, but the Undertaker is easier to play and get the hang of than the Scholar.
