Xbox Game Pass Has Already Added Another Day One Game
Xbox Game Pass has already added its second day-one title for December 2025, Routine by Lunar Software. Microsoft’s gaming subscription service is more than just a rotating catalog of old favorites to play. Frequently, the titles added to Xbox Game Pass are available on launch day to Ultimate and PC subscribers. Many of these are Play Anywhere games, meaning they can be enjoyed on PC, console, and gaming handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally and the original ROG Ally with a single purchase. Subscribers also get discounts and extra perks like trial memberships to Discord Nitro and in-game benefits like Operator skins for Call of Duty Warzone.
The first day-one title was added to Xbox Game Pass on December 1. Marvel Cosmic Invasion, developed by Tribute Games, is an arcade-style beat ‘em up with a pixelated retro look. It puts players in control of a number of Marvel superheroes on a mission to stop a cosmic invasion by the villain Annihilus. Since its launch, Marvel Cosmic Invasion has earned a 4-star rating from more than 300 user reviews on Xbox and currently has an 81 critic average on review aggregate site OpenCritic. Of course, that’s not the only day-one game launching on Xbox Game Pass in December.
The Best Games On Xbox Game Pass (November 2025)
Xbox Game Pass is unquestionably worth the subscription fee, but which of the available games are the best use of your hard drive space?
Routine Joins the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Line-Up
The second title to launch on Xbox Game Pass in December is Routine, a first-person survival horror game developed by Lunar Software and published by Raw Fury. The adventure takes place on an abandoned lunar base in an alternate version of the 1980s, where an unnamed protagonist is attempting to figure out exactly what went wrong. The game offers a lot of puzzle solving and finding upgrades for the Cosmonaut Assistance Tool that is used both for combat and interacting with the environment. And, yes, there are plenty of enemies in Routine that, despite the removal of the game’s planned permadeath mechanic, are often best to hide from or simply run past.
Many fans of horror have been looking forward to the release of Routine for more than a decade. First announced in 2012, it was supposed to launch in 2013 but experienced a number of delays, and development was eventually put on hiatus until 2020 when it kicked off again in a new direction. So far, reviews for Routine range from positive to mixed. Players praise its scary monsters and retro-futuristic aesthetic that is reminiscent of Alien: Isolation, but aren’t so thrilled about its slow pacing. Others didn’t find it quite as terrifying as they’d hoped, though players who enjoy puzzles may be more fully engaged by what the game has to offer.
There are plenty of other horror games to look forward to in the next few months if Routine doesn’t quite scratch that itch or, better yet, puts players in the mood for more. Of course, Resident Evil Requiem, slated for release on February 27, 2026, is one of the more highly anticipated. But many fans are also excited about TeamKill Media’s third-person action horror game Code Violet, launching on January 10, 2026, in which the protagonist wakes up in a 25th century bioengineering lab that is overrun by dinosaurs.
Gamers enjoying the action of ARC Raiders but who are missing a horror element might be interested in The Midnight Walkers by Oneway Ticket Studio. Slated for early access release on January 28, 2026, the PvPvE extraction FPS can also be played solo or in three-person squads. But instead of robots, players face off against zombies and other survivors, battling their way through the Liberty Grand Center mega complex.
Also Added to Xbox Game Pass on December 4
Also joining the Xbox Game Pass lineup on December 4 is 33 Immortals by Thunder Lotus, which has been available on the subscription service in Game Prevew since March. The co-op action rogulike game pits up to 33 damned souls against God, all while fighting hordes of monsters. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which has been on Xbox Game Pass since December 2024 is now available to Premium tier subscribers as well. The first-person adventure game debuted to great reviews and has been nominated for Best Action-Adventure Game and Best Performance (by Troy Baker) by The Game Awards 2025.
Microsoft has also confirmed several more games coming to Xbox Game Pass in December. These cover a wide array of genres, from a casual mining experience with A Game About Digging a Hole to Mortal Kombat 1’s high-intensity fighting action. 2022’s Dome Keeper by Bippinbits is another Raw Fury-published game and also about mining, but this time it’s a roguelike set on an alien planet.
