PS Plus is Adding One of the Best Games of All Time on December 2
It has been confirmed that PlayStation Plus is adding Red Dead Redemption to the Extra tier of the service on December 2. PlayStation Plus features three tiers for subscribers to choose from. The Essential tier is for monthly free games, while the Extra tier gets subscribers access to a large selection of PS4 and PS5 games. Finally, the Premium tier includes all of that plus cloud streaming and classic games from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP libraries.
Like other subscription services, the PlayStation Plus library is updated on a monthly basis. Whereas other services make changes on various days throughout the month, PS Plus largely sticks to a predictable schedule. Typically, all the new games are added on a specific day of the month, the same day that the removals happen. However, there are times when PS Plus strays from its established patterns to surprise subscribers, and that’s exactly what’s happening in December.
The new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for December 2025 won’t be fully unveiled until the middle of next month, but in the meantime, subscribers can circle December 2 on their calendars. On that day, PS Plus will be adding the original Red Dead Redemption to the Extra tier, giving Extra and Premium subscribers the chance to play what is widely considered to be one of the absolute best video games ever made. An expansive open world western with an engaging story, memorable characters, and enough content to keep players busy for weeks, Red Dead Redemption is often pointed to as one of Rockstar’s best titles and should make for a fantastic addition to the PS Plus lineup.
Red Dead Redemption will also be available on Netflix.
Red Dead Redemption is Getting an Upgrade
What makes Red Dead Redemption‘s debut on PS Plus Extra on December 2 even more exciting is the fact that it’s an upgraded version of the game. Red Dead Redemption is coming to modern platforms on December 2 with special enhancements. Those on PS5 and Xbox Series X can enjoy 60 FPS, improved graphics, HDR support, and 4K resolution. Those playing on Switch can look forward to DLSS, HDR, mouse controls, and 60 FPS. It’s worth noting that those that already own Red Dead Redemption on PS4, Switch, or Xbox can get a free upgrade to the new version of the game. PS Plus subscribers don’t have to worry about annoying an older version of the game — they will be able to play it fully through their subscription.
The upgraded Red Dead Redemption also includes the Undead Nightmare expansion.

While PS Plus subscribers have to wait until December 2 to check out Red Dead Redemption, they don’t have to wait nearly as long for the service’s next update. PS Plus is getting an update on November 18 that will see nine new games added, with eight titles coming to the Extra tier and Tomb Raider: Anniversary joining the Premium tier. Notably, Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to PS Plus Extra as part of the next update, so Red Dead Redemption won’t be the lone Rockstar Games title on the service.
