World of Warcraft might have just teased a potential player marriage system during the early access trailer for Housing. While this could be nothing, it also could be the first clue that World of Warcraft is developing a brand-new bonding system for the MMO.

Housing has officially arrived in World of Warcraft. Early access to this feature was one of the main attractions of World of Warcraft Patch 11.2.7, and is available to anyone who has pre-purchased the Midnight expansion. The first 24 hours since the new system’s launch have been hectic, with fans flooding the housing neighborhoods to build homes of their own.

However, one of the sequences shown in the video was the character in question getting married at a wedding venue in the game, surrounded by friends, family, and fireworks.

While this could otherwise be seen as a simple reference to a community-run event, it may go deeper than that. In the comments of the video on YouTube, WoW fan Bolldere asked, “Did you guys just secretly announce player weddings?” to which the official World of Warcraft channel responded, “It won’t be a secret anymore if you tell everyone in this comment section.” While seemingly a joke at first glance, this could also imply that Blizzard is actually developing a marriage system tied to Housing in the future.

It is important to emphasize that nothing official has been revealed about such a feature right now. Indeed, a one-off comment on a YouTube video is far from confirmation that marriage is coming to WoW. However, this tongue-in-cheek jest could actually be a hint about a brand-new feature. Regardless, like with any potential leaks or teasers in World of Warcraft, fans should temper their expectations for the time being until something more concrete is revealed.

What Would Marriage Look Like in World of Warcraft?

It is hard to say how exactly marriage would work in World of Warcraft, but if it were to exist, it would likely be tied to the new Housing system. However, a player can only have two Houses in World of Warcraft: one in the Alliance’s Founder’s Point zone, and another in the Horde’s Razorwind Shores. As one of WoW’s major competitors, Final Fantasy 14‘s Ceremony of Eternal Bonding comes to mind. In the critically acclaimed RPG, fans can invite others to a gorgeous church venue, customize their ceremony with various options, and even purchase deluxe marriage packages from the cash shop. A special two-seater Chocobo mount, dyable outfits, and even a ring that allows one to teleport to their spouse are all perks that can be earned in this system.

Regardless of what it looks like, many gamers would be ecstatic to throw weddings in World of Warcraft. Marriage has appeared in many places in World of Warcraft’s history, with characters like Thrall and Aggra, Malfurion and Tyrande, Lor’themar and Thalyssra, and Alleria and Turalyon all having weddings either in stories or the game itself. Likewise, RPers have run fan-made wedding events for their own characters for decades, fueled by their creative use of World of Warcraft items like the Binding of Binding. If Blizzard were to add official support for in-game weddings, players of all kinds would be able to celebrate the bonds they form between their friends, fellow raiders, and out-of-game partners in an even stronger fashion within Azeroth.
