I Think I’ve Figured Out What Overwatch 2 is Doing With the Story
Overwatch 2 is cooking up something big with its lore in the near future, and I’m pretty sure that I’ve cracked the case wide open.
Overwatch 2 Season 20 ‘Vendetta’ Highlights
However, one season’s end heralds another’s beginning, and Season 20 looks like it is not messing around. Aptly named “Vendetta,” the star of this season is the eponymous hero. The first true melee damage hero in Overwatch 2, Marzia Bartalotti, known as Vendetta or La Lupa in the Colosseo, is the daughter of former Talon executive Antonio Giordani. Having sworn vengeance on both Talon and Overwatch, this villain brings a highly-mobile, aggressive playstyle that is sure to sunder the competition.

Stadium is getting a bunch of updates, too. Doomfist and Wuyang are both coming to the game mode, and Cassidy’s Powers and Items are getting a significant rework as well. A new Overwatch 2 Control map set in China adds a fresh battlefield into the mix, and a Top 500 tier and League 6 Reaper Chase skin provide tempting rewards and bragging rights to those who can climb the ladder and master the game mode.
Winter Wonderland is also returning to Overwatch 2 in Season 20. From December 9 through January 7, the holiday event kicks off with a three-path reward system that fans can progress through to earn Jingle Tracer, Krampus Junkrat, and Santa Claus Torbjorn, plus tons of other rewards. Mischief & Magic also returns during the event; for the first two weeks, players can enjoy the classic prop hunt game with a holiday-themed makeover, but for the last two, a new Wonderland twist will give Kiriko special powers based on her current disguise, such as biting gingerbread and exploding snowmen.
Players can earn Frozen Demon Junkrat and Frozen Mountaineer Cassidy via Mischief & Magic event quests.
Lastly, Competitive Play is getting some awesome new features that should make rank climbing much better. With Challenger Score, players will get more progression during win streaks or through queue bonuses, and will even regain some of their rank progress if they lose to a cheater who is later banned. Additionally, top-ranked gamers will have integrated social visibility so that the community can celebrate the champions who stand at the top.

Of course, no Overwatch 2 season could be complete without new Mythic skins. Cassidy gets the Mythic hero skin this time, with the Divine Desperado shining with customizable hairstyles, colorways, and solar special effects unlocked at each tier according to Overwatch 2’s new Mythic skin unlock philosophy. Orisa fans might instead use their Mythic Prisms on the charming Capsule Cannon weapon skin, which turns the hero’s Augmented Fusion Driver into an adorable gacha machine.
Beyond Mythics, Overwatch 2 is getting tons of other skins as well. The Battle Pass will feature tons of new winter-themed cosmetics, including Yukizaro Genji, Celestial Venture, Colder: 76, Frost Lich Reaper, and Skadi Freja as Legendary skins and Cold Front Tracer, Ice Crystal Symmetra, and Winter Guardian Illari as Epics, while the Ultimate Battle Pass also includes High Society Vendetta and Reindeer Tracer. The shop will also see tons of different skin bundles, including Cozy Ashe, Wuyang, Juno, Bastion, and Mauga, Borealis Mercy, Lifeweaver, Echo, Wuyang, and Sojourn, and Heist skins for Roadhog, Reaper, and Ashe.
Were the season not lively enough, Overwatch 2 is finally adding the ability to gift Battle Passes, currency bundles, and premium packs to their friends via Battle.net. All of this and more debut in Overwatch 2 with the start of Season 20 on December 9, so fans should be sure to bundle up and enjoy the festivities.
