CD Projekt Red Teases Cyberpunk 2077 Fans With Cryptic Message

By newsgame

Cyberpunk 2077 players are convinced that developer CD Projekt Red is teasing a big update or possibly even a second DLC for the game’s fifth anniversary this month. Speculation began after the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account posted a cryptic message celebrating the birthdays of two in-game characters as well as the smash-hit RPG’s five-year release anniversary. Although the account has insisted that this is a run-of-the-mill post done each month to celebrate characters’ birthdays, fans are standing firm that there is more to this one than meets the eye.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is now considered one of the best RPGs of the last decade, its initial release quickly became one of the biggest controversies in gaming history. After the huge success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, fans were eager to check out a new IP from CD Projekt Red, but its release was riddled with bugs, glitches, and performance issues, many of which were so severe that PlayStation pulled the title from its storefronts until new updates were released. The studio worked tirelessly to bring the title up to scratch with new updates and has pulled off a huge comeback. But despite CD Projekt Red insisting that it’s now “done” with the game, it still receives occasional surprise updates, leading many to believe another one is on the way for the game’s fifth anniversary.

Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Are Convinced a New Update Is Coming This Month

Each month, the official Twitter account for Cyberpunk 2077 celebrates the birthdays of in-game characters, with this month being Solomon Reed’s and So Mi Song’s birthdays on December 12 and 29, respectively. However, this month is a little different, as it will also be the fifth anniversary of Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10, which has led some to believe that the studio’s most recent post is a teaser for a potential new update or even a second DLC. While neither of these has been directly mentioned by the studio in its post, fans are having a hard time believing CD Projekt Red will watch Cyberpunk 2077‘s big birthday pass by without some sort of reveal.

The post has garnered over 1.2 million impressions at the time of writing, as fans flood the responses with speculation and theories about a potential new Cyberpunk 2077 update or DLC. One fan said the studio is “teasing” the community, while another questioned, “Does this mean we are getting a 5-year anniversary update?” Some simply begged CD Projekt Red to release another DLC, and while there have been rumors in the past, it seems incredibly unlikely. If the studio is cooking something up for the game’s fifth anniversary, it will likely be in the form of a free content update, as opposed to a premium DLC expansion, similar to Phantom Liberty.

CD Projekt Red has repeatedly insisted that the studio is finished releasing new updates for the 2020 RPG, yet continues to surprise fans with “one more patch.” The most recent example of this came back in July, with the massive 2.3 content update, which included four new vehicles, a new side job, an auto drive feature, and much more. Fans were also quick to point out that the update seemingly changed the in-game billboards to advertise a casino, leading many to believe that the studio was already teasing a 2.4 patch for Cyberpunk 2077.

As CD Projekt Red is now hard at work on Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4, the former of which will be a sequel to the 2020 RPG, it seems unlikely that it would want to continue pumping resources into the now five-year-old title. But, with that being said, the studio has worked in partnership with Virtuos on multiple occasions now for new Cyberpunk 2077 updates. This allows CD Projekt Red to still have an input on any new patches, without taking a wealth of developers away from other projects. So there’s always the chance that it opts to go down the same route with another update for the game’s big anniversary this month.
