Xbox Game Pass Adds Its First Day-One Game for December 2025
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is now available on Xbox Game Pass across several tiers. This day-one fighting game with optional co-op marks the first December 2025 addition to Microsoft’s subscription service, as well as the 210th Xbox Game Pass release since the turn of the year.
Developed by Montreal-based Tribute Games, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a superhero beat ’em up with 2D pixel graphics and a varied roster spanning 15 playable characters, including Spider-Man, Captain America, She-Hulk, Venom, Wolverine, Storm, and Rocket Raccoon. Besides the Marvel IP, the game aims to stand out from the genre competition with its so-called Cosmic Swap tag-team system, allowing players to pick a couple of superheroes for each level and switch between them at will, creating opportunities for unique combos.
5 Forgotten Horror Games That Deserve To Be Rediscovered On Game Pass
For Game Pass subscribers, these horror games never got the love they deserve, but now they can (and should) be played on Xbox’s streaming platform.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion Now Available Across 2 Xbox Game Pass Tiers
Just over eight months following its March 2025 announcement, Marvel Cosmic Invasion has been released for PC, consoles, and Xbox Game Pass on December 1. Tribute Games’ beat ’em up can be played via the Ultimate tier of the Xbox subscription service, as well as PC Game Pass. Marvel Cosmic Invasion is the 69th day-one title to join Xbox Game Pass in 2025, and the first to debut in December. However, it was officially presented as part of the November Wave 2 lineup, while the first wave of December additions is expected to be revealed later this week—most likely on December 2, based on Microsoft’s usual announcement schedule.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion Possibly Coming to Xbox Game Pass Premium Tier in 2026
Ever since Microsoft made day-one releases an exclusive perk of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass in September 2024, the service’s middle tier has typically received such titles with a delay of 6 to 12 months. The October 1 rebrand of Xbox Game Pass Standard to Premium saw Microsoft commit to a maximum 12-month delay for Xbox-published games. However, because Marvel Cosmic Invasion has a different publisher, the timing of its potential XGP Premium launch remains uncertain. If the game is planned to remain on the service for at least a year, it could reach the $14.99-a-month tier of the service as early as mid-2026.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion Is Another Win for Xbox Game Pass Co-Op Catalog
In the meantime, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is strengthening the consistently growing selection of compelling co-op titles on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. While it’s playable solo, it also supports both couch and online co-op for up to four players, with seamless drop-in, drop-out functionality. Early previews indicate that cooperative multiplayer is one of the game’s key selling points—alongside its appeal to ’80s and ’90s nostalgia—with the mode reportedly fully embracing the chaotic energy typical of classic beat ’em ups.

December 2 is the next key date for Xbox Game Pass members, as it marks the arrival of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage and will likely coincide with the official announcement of the service’s (entire) first wave of December releases. The upcoming lineup is already known to include Routine, launching on December 4, as well as Dome Keeper and A Game About Digging A Hole, both scheduled to arrive five days later. If 2024 is any indication, Microsoft might consolidate this month’s Xbox Game Pass roster into a single lineup announcement, then return to the typical two-part monthly reveal schedule in January 2026.
