How to Get & Use Furniture Box in Mewgenics
Mewgenics has a bunch of different gear and items for players to make use of. Even when you’re not on a run with your cats, there are items that you can use to improve your breeding at the house. Adding furniture to your home can improve its stats, which not only benefits the quality of the kittens your cats spawn, but also generally improves the happiness of your feline friends. One easy way to get these furnishings for your home is the furniture box in Mewgenics, but it’s a little unclear how it exactly works, so let me break it down for you.

How to Get Furniture Box in Mewgenics
Furniture boxes can be obtained by simply moving onto one of the ‘box tiles’ on a run. These are instead of the skulls, chests, or other little icons that denote some sort of event or combat.
In my experience, furniture boxes are fairly rare, and you won’t find them on the top path (the normal path) through the first few areas in Act 1. Instead, you’ll need to look on the ‘Hard’ paths in different areas once you’ve got past The Alley. The first time I spotted one was in The Junkyard, as shown in the screenshot above, but they do have a chance to spawn in other areas, too.
How to Use Furniture Boxes in Mewgenics
If you pick up a furniture box on a run, it’ll be added to your Backpack. This is where things can get a bit confusing. If you read the furniture box’s description, it states: +8 Shield, -5 Movement. Breaks when shield is depleted. Becomes a random piece of furniture when you return home.
While this might sound like you’re guaranteed a piece of furniture from it regardless of whether it survives a run or breaks, that is not the case. If the furniture box is equipped to a cat and then the shield is depleted, it will disappear and you won’t get anything from it. Instead, you need to make sure it survives the run.
The best way to do this is to avoid equipping it to any of your cats at all. Keep it in your backpack and make it to the end of a run. When you return to your house, the furniture box will turn into a new piece of furniture that you can place in your home and reap the rewards from.
If you die when you’ve got the furniture box, the mystery man will allow you to claim it. This will still cause it to turn into a piece of furniture in the same way as if you complete the run.
